well, this is what I have heard:
their are some group of people that say, the donations are needed because n00bstories servers need the money not Renguard. Dontations have been low on n00bstories, and the owner of n00bstories is asking for donations to fund n00bstories, not renguard, only using rengurad's name.
mac on gamespy said he was in charge of the renguard project and they are financially fine.
I'm not going to mention the group of peoples name because I do not want to start a fight. But I would like to know if this is the turth or not. Thanks.

Just because a group is "financially fine", doesn't mean that donations are not needed. It has already been said that if there were no donations, the project would still proceed. Just that any donations would lessen the financial load of the group members. Even if the n00bstories servers are in need of money, this money would go towards RenGuard services. As you said, a lot of the n00bstories servers have been empty lately. Easier way to lessen that financial burdon (if that is the case) would be to shut down some servers for a while until more are needed, instead of lying to keep empty servers up.

You heard wrong. Yes we are financially stable as of the moment, but keep in mind we are paying literally hundreds of dollars per month out of our own pockets, just to keep this game alive. The statistics show Renguard usage is climbing on a daily basis, and expansion is imminent, so we simply stated that we will accept donations. Apparently some people would like to confuse a voluntary donation as some sort of demand or "sob story", when the situation is quite simple...we are paying hundreds of dollars and investing hundreds of hours of our time and other resources...the donations are just a way that people can help out if they want to and are able to.

This is COMPLETELY false. I make more than enough money to support my own servers. I lease 5 servers at the moment, 3 of which are used as RenGuard master servers. Blazer and I comprise the funding for RenGuard. Do you think it's free to have all these master servers? I assure you that it's not.
You may have interpretted "financially fine" incorrectly. Yes, if no one ever donated a cent, we could maintain current levels of traffic without getting ourselves in a money crisis. However, if the network grows, and I expect it will, I'm not so keen on spending more money on servers, especially when all the money I spend goes to support people who don't appreciate all the money and effort that is spent.
In fact, I'm seriously considering shutting down one of my windows servers because prices are so low for them these days, any idiot with $150 a month is running one and RenGuard or not, there just aren't enough players for all the servers that are going up. Plus, I put the servers up because there weren't enough servers up at the time... now that every idiot and his uncle can afford to host a large server, there's no need for me to waste my money any longer and I can devote the time I spend maintaining them to RenGuard.
I'm the bawss.

TonyMontana | well, why not just use the empty n00bstories server to run renguard instead?
|
How does this change the fact that the money for the servers is coming from my own pocket out of money I earn? Where is the harm in asking anyone can is willing and able to contribute to do so? You act like we're trying to take your firstborn child or your arm or something. Sheesh!

Yes, that's the problem. Of course everyone wants to run their own server... there's just not enough players to fill them, plain and simple. Hope you didn't commit to any long-term plans...

i know that many people will not like my idea, but why not putting some publicity on the page renguard open to support the software, many sites (like the-underdogs) are puting some ads to be able to pay they bandwith, i dont say it should be done now, but when renguard will become too expensive for its creator and for the donator, it would be a way to allow renguard to grow larger and larger

ps: of course im not talking about silly pop up windows or XXX adds but about "normal" ads
