BlackHand Studios, creators of RenGuard, are asking for your help in expanding the RenGuard network. For those who don't know, RenGuard operates over a network of dedicated servers. At this point, BlackHand Studios members are paying all the cost for these servers, but at the rate we're growing, another server or two would definitely be nice and improve the stability of the network.
To that end, we are asking for donations to help support the servers we rent for the RenGuard network. The costs amount to hundreds of dollars per month, but any amount you can spare would be an enormous help.
BlackHand Studios is also pursuing non-profit in addition to our corporate status, so if we manage to be approved for that, your donations will be tax deductable.
Please visit http://www.renguard.com/donate.php to find out how you can help. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the master server software, we are unable to accept offers for space on a server you already have.
I'm the bawss.

Donations are cool. its only when you start getting into subscriptions that EA is going to have an issue with it. especially if 90% of what was free on their service suddenly starts being pay to play. However in this case it is still cool as it is voluntary donations to keep servers running. many do this and there is not a problem.
I think what Warranto was talking about was it NOT becoming a subscription service like everquest or other EA and sony games. trust me if they start on that EA will pounce and want their cut. I highly doubt that is in the future with RG. they just need a little support to keep things rolling as is for now. thats all.
And xptek, you donating will not get you out of the doghouse I'm sure.

We have absolutely NO intentions of charging for RenGuard. Many servers run off donations. It's the same thing. We need more master servers, which are a lot cheaper than gaming servers. I'm also planning to try and help the costs by hosting web sites for people since websites don't use much for CPU and the boxes have a TON of bandwidth to spare.

90% of the security involved in RenGuard is in the master servers. We won't host them on boxes that we don't have sole control of.

If the master servers have a ton of bandwidth and website hosting doesn't take up much space, you could set up a very cheap hosting service for some Renegade clans, or just some personal pages. Like $0.50 - $1.00 for a few MB of space a month. Or even offer an email service.
Say 100 people out of all the community sign up, you will have $50-100 a month.
Alternatively you could offer a free account, but it will have a mandatory RenGuard donations button.
It may be a lot of hassle at first but I guess it will pay off in the long run.

The problem is that we can't allow SSH access to the boxes with master servers. The only thing I could really do is my idea to host forums for people. Then they don't need access to the box.

Maybe offer a simple affiliate program on some of the community websites?
Have about 3 buttons on some of the websites you have access to.
When people sign up to get traffic to their site, they can chose which sites they want their button to appear on. And have the buttons change on every time the page is viewed.
Charge a small fee either monthly or for every click the link is clicked. Similar to Google Ads, but limited to the C&C community.

What I would do if I were you is do forum hosting. Yet like IPB does with there free hosted forums is put a banner on each forum.
Have that. Just collect money from the advertisers.

Then you better get a paper round.
In the end it doesn't matter if you are who you say you are. You will still mean nothing to me.
When i have kids, everytime i drive past a fast food restaurant, im gonna punch my kid in the face, then they'll never wanna come..
