a) Make sure you've updated the definitions for each of those mentioned programs, before scanning.
b) Install a firewall.
c) Be careful what you install (check custom options in the installer, some of them can install sponser programs).
d) If using Kazaa, get Kazaa Lite.
e) If using MSN MessengerPlus reinstall it, without the sponsor program (custom option).
f) Download the google popup blocker (find it on google.com).
g) Perform a windows update, to cure any security issues windows may have.
h) Lastly, an obvious one, but be careful what e-mail attachments you open, if you've no idea who the sender is, delete it.

If you have a router chances are it has a firewall, you can acess these settings by typing its IP adress into IE(usually 192.168.2.1).
You said you have Norton AntiVirus, is this just AntiVirus or is it Norton Internet Security?

Yeah, I downloaded Opera and it's great because it's like Safari because it has the tabs at the top. Way better than MicroSucks Internet Explorer.

"The danger to political dissent is acute where the Government attempts to act under so vague a concept as the power to protect "domestic security." Given the difficulty of defining the domestic security interest, the danger of abuse in acting to protect that interest becomes apparent. --U.S. Supreme Court decision (407 U.S. 297 (1972)

It's just NORTON ANTI VIRUS 2004, not the Internet Security.
EDIT: I also do not have a router, just a DSL modem.

I also have a ADSL modem, but there are 2 kinds. 1 is the USB modem, second is the ethernet modem. The ethernet modem actually has a firewall, it's not named a router, but it has a lot of the same funtions as a router.
Size doesn't matter.

I have the USB modem. I don't use Ethernet. I still do not know how to access my firewall. I'm pretty sure I have one.
