Did you know the United States has almost 3x more trees than it did 200 years ago?

That's completely wrong.

The story was shaky at best, and the political message was as blatant as if they ran "Bush sucks" ads every 5 minutes. Perhaps the most obvious satire was how the president in this flick was made to be a bumbling idiot, while when Clinton was in office, Emmerich's president in Independence Day was a hero.

Alright, I haven't seen the movie yet, but I will soon, so I'm just judging from what you say here. First off, are you complaining that the movie was too close to real life in your second sentence? Wink Also, I don't think Independence Day really had a political message, what with the President just randomly flying an airplane around and shooting aliens down. The reference there to Bill Clinton is shaky at best. Also, I don't think Bush the dyslexic could handle a disaster like this.

Now, I severely doubt that this would happen like it does in real life, if global warming became severe, lots of crap would still happen. For one, malaria might spread to new places as they become more tropical. Also, an interesting fact is that if a whale walks out of the water on tall legs, it would boil. It's metabolic processes run so hot that it needs to be in ocean water just to stay cool, and the frequently dive deep just to escape heat. If the oceans warmed up, these whales might have to go too deep just to stay cool. Then whales die. And lots of other crap that I don't want to write down right now.

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -- Theodore Roosevelt (1918)

"The danger to political dissent is acute where the Government attempts to act under so vague a concept as the power to protect "domestic security." Given the difficulty of defining the domestic security interest, the danger of abuse in acting to protect that interest becomes apparent. --U.S. Supreme Court decision (407 U.S. 297 (1972)
