I recently upgraded from an ATI Radeon 9100 (PCI) to an ATI Radeon 9600XT (AGP).
There's a problem I want to fix that's really getting to me. My display will randomly crash for no apparent reason. It dosen't matter if I'm playing a game or just screwing around in Windows. My screen will just all of a sudden go black and the light on my monitor will turn orange. I've already tried reinstalling my drivers, changing some BIOS settings, even exchanging it for a new one but it still hasn't solved my problem. I can assure you that it's not overheating. I can't think of anything else to do.
Any ideas?

Are you fucking kidding me? I just bought this system 3 weeks ago!
I'll see if I can just up the fan speed once the processor gets to a certain temprature. I do have a hardware monitor program with an alarm that alerts me when it gets too high. I'll leave it open and play a game to see if it goes off.

mrpirate | Try running the card in 4x AGP mode, this sounds like it could be an AGP/voltage issue.

I had a similar problem with a 9700 Pro card.
In the end it turned out to be a (lack of) power problem.
I put in an Enermax Power supply and the problem went away.

I occasionally have this problem too, but only when running games, as well as restarts without warning and freezing. I think it could be both an ATI related issue as WELL as a processor/power supply issue. Maybe not. I've been using the same power supply since before a system upgrade that started causing the trouble.
Here's a handy program you can use to monitor temperatures; if you can be bothered running it then running your game in windowed mode to check the taskbar icon (temp). There are 3 temperatures, I'd say you want to keep them all under 50 if you can.

well, i think i found my problem.
We have a UPS, and i didnt notice that my father put it right next to the computer. That makes the side of the PC Case go verry hot and thus making the inside hot too.
I opened my case today and i am running with it opened as we speak. The current remperature HD1 is 42C and HD0 is 31C so i think its good...
Ill run it for some time and see what happens.Keep your fingers crossed
