Javaxcx | No, of course not. Now, to eliminate the risk of going on off on an unrelated tangent, I'm going to ask a few questions and I want you to try and answer them as honestly as you feel you can:
1) What reasons did the United States have to invade Iraq?
|
You already know this -- but to break it down, because Iraq in the hands of Saddam was a threat to the security of civilized nations including the USA.
Quote: | 2) Did the UN approve of these reasons?
|
The UN is a league of nations, so to say whether the UN approved or not isn't the right question. What you should ask is how much of the UN approved/disapproved. Some countries voiced disapproval. Others joined the Coalition of the Willing.
http://www.geocities.com/pwhce/willing.html
6 European countries disapproved of the action in Iraq, while in March-April 2003, the Coalition had about 50 countries in it, with 15 of those countries having troops in Iraq right now. There are 55 countries in the Coalition right now, but Spain and Honduras will not renew their commitments unless a specific UN mandate is issued.
34 Countries have troops in Iraq as of March 2004.
You can review those figures at the link above.
Quote: | 3) Mr. Cheney was reported to have said: "the United States, when its
security is threatened, may not act without unanimous international consent", what are your opinions on this? (note: I got this off a Liberal site, so I cannot authenticate it's credibility, perhaps someone can obtain a transscript of Cheney's speech of Oct. 11/03)

"Cheney blasted the criticism "that the United States, when its security is threatened, may not act without unanimous international consent" -- a clear reference to U.N. procedures, under which "the mere objection of even one foreign government would be sufficient to prevent us from acting. "
So it sounds to me like Cheney used those words, but in reference to what others were saying so that he could counter it. Out of context quote.
Quote: | 4) What is the UN's policy on invasion in terms of peacekeeping?
|
Apparently not effective is what they are. If unanimous approval is needed, then nothing would ever get done until every single country in the world is in the UN and upholds its charters. But if that were the case, we wouldn't have the threat (and reality) of terrorism, would we?
Quote: | 5) Do you believe that the ends thus far in Iraq justify the means in which they came about? Please elaborate.
|
Yes. Everyone is focusing on some small little incident involving abuse of some prisoners and trying to say that this whole war was a failure. It's not.
Here are some great quotes from Rush Limbaugh:
“We’re investigating ourselves in the middle of what we're doing. It's like getting married on Monday and going to the marriage counselor every day thereafter to examine how the marriage is going. If you spend all the time analyzing it, you never live it. I don't mean to compare marriage to war, ladies. Please.
"If you're serious about a war on terror, we ought to be dealing with Syria; Iran ought to be next; North Korea also ought to be on the board. Instead we're beating ourselves up and hampering ourselves over this prison business."
“If word got out that we were forcing prisoners in the Abu Ghraib prison to play dodgeball, can you imagine the hell there would be to pay? I shudder to think about it.
“The media is doing everything it can to see to it that we lose this war, and don't think I haven't noticed that.
“There is a joined effort by those in the partisan media to secure America's defeat, because they, like Democrats, are looking at Iraq and the war on terrorism through the prism of John Kerry's inauguration, as I said rather brilliantly yesterday. I want to make sure that it gets heard, repeated in all the right places. They're not looking at this through the prism of American victory.
“Just two months ago the Democrats were all bent out of shape because Bush may do something to lower gasoline prices via secret deals with the Saudis. Now John Kerry is saying Bush isn't doing enough with OPEC? I'm incredulous. This is why his own campaign needs to be holding the leash.
“Prison abuse is one thing, but to let it shape our entire military purpose is absolutely absurd.
Quote: | Hopefully I can get you to see where I'm coming from when I say this war is unjust.
|
Nope.
I'm the bawss.
