I need some advice for hosting a web site. I've seen all these web hosts offering their services for "so-much a month/year", but some of them have crap deals, and you usually pay more for what you get.

I just need some advice as to what to look for. All I really need is a web site with about 100-200 MB web space, FTP access, CGI Script enabled and possible more.

Would it be better for me to just rent my own server, all would that be too expensive? I really don't know much about this stuff, I know there are people here very knowledgeable of this subject.

Depends on what your site is, if its just simple html pages with a few downloads.

Just get a small deal and upgrade as you need to.

Dont pay for more then you want, and dont get a server if you dont have a clue how to maintain it. Also if the site wont need a dedicated server, dont get one.

Small hosting deal, then upgrade as needs be.

In the end it doesn't matter if you are who you say you are. You will still mean nothing to me.

When i have kids, everytime i drive past a fast food restaurant, im gonna punch my kid in the face, then they'll never wanna come..

Depending on the content of your site, its almost always possible to find someone willing to provide free hosting. Anything with under 10-15 mb of files, which is most sites these days, can get hosted somewhere. My recommendation would be find a forum of discussion about whatever the topic of your site is, and ask for hosting there after describing your experience in webdesign and anything related to your topic. I've probably gotten as good a service as I could pay for, maybe better, for Starwars Mod, and I've never paid a cent, nor have I had ads or popups on my site.

If I had to recomend a host, it would be wired-hub. No, they are not owned by me, or even operated by me. I had CNC Zone up with them for a long time. They are very reliable, and will help you out with whatever you need. Their support seems to always be there when you need them. The longest I ever had to wait was, I think, 1 hour (and that was because I put the support ticket at a low priority)

Also, as England said check webhosting talk. But just remember, in most cases you get what you pay for.

fr0zenhost isn't controlled by cow, it's controlled by fr0zen. cow does have a tendency to act a bit childish, but in a professional setting he can be quite professional and mature on his decisions. i just wish he would act mature and professional all the time especially when he's trying to advertise.
