Maybe a character that can be bought separately from the tank and when you have that character in his specific tank that tank can do more damage then normal? Maybe these character can have a repair gun that only works on there specific tank.
EX: a Pilot Character

Just an idea...I really dont know what you guys are doing or what your limitations are.

What you mean is a character that is more experienced in a tank such as a pilot to an orca? I don't see how it would be possible for a driver with any level of experience to actually do more damage in a vehicle unless they could better target weak spots on enemies.

It is you that should be more expreneced at the vehicle you drive, not your character.
If you want to be limited by your player, go play Planet Side
