They said that Jesus will appear in the year 2000 also, and that the world will end.
I'm either living past the "Apocalypse" or dead and remembering.

Hmm...the year's supposed to end in 2012....huh....well, let's see how many other years the world was supposed to come to and end...
1999
2000
2001
2002
2003
2004
World's not at an end yet. Just because someone knows the Maya caldener supposedly ended in 2012 and some crazy people who claim to be abducted by aliens just for a little publicity say some random stuff about 2012 doesn't mean crap. I hate stupid things like this. Besides, it would more than likely take magic to remove the world in 8 years.
"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -- Theodore Roosevelt (1918)
"The danger to political dissent is acute where the Government attempts to act under so vague a concept as the power to protect "domestic security." Given the difficulty of defining the domestic security interest, the danger of abuse in acting to protect that interest becomes apparent. --U.S. Supreme Court decision (407 U.S. 297 (1972)

IRON-FART | They said that Jesus will appear in the year 2000 also, and that the world will end.
|
By "they" I hope you do not mean that scripture said that, because the Word does not mention when the world will end; Jesus doesn't even know.
Majiin Vegeta | jesus does not exsist thats why he never apeared at 2000
the world will not end in our life times
|
Jesus didn't appear in 2000 because the time wasn't yet. He may return in 2012, 5435, and so on. Who knows? Maybe he'll return tonight.
Anyway, about the Mayan Calendar, this fear has been around for awhile now. According to the Mayan people, whose ancestors made the calendar, say that the calendar ends in 2012 because after that there will a bright new age. It doesn't predict some massive bloody armageddon, it predicts an age of harmony.
People should look more into the culture where these "signs" originated. If that happened, much more people would understand things, such as the Bible.

By "they" I mean those fanatics who are obsessed with the end of the world and believe its going to happen in their lifetime. The wierdo's who said the end of the world was going to happen in 2000....maybe it's late...it'll happen in 2001 etc.
The people who start all this stuff.

* xptek sighs...
Take it to the "Passion of the Christ" or whatever thread. I'm sick of debating religious topics, it never gets anywhere.
Back on topic: http://www.faqs.org/qa/qa-493.html
Quite a little discussion there... I'll be sure to turn Christian when Jesus comes down to save/destroy us.

Time measurement its-self is a man made item. How could it relate to gates, wormholes and revelations in humanity? Unless these events coincidentally happen at the same "time" as our 2012.
As far as a few other people in this thread have said, these fears have been around for a while and have often proven themselves to be hoaxes. Think of all the fears surrounding the reach of the "year 2000" which never happened. Is 2000 not of more significance than 2012? How did these 2012 fears/predictions originate?
Most likely someone/people made them up, since time is a man made item, men/women decided to hoax these things up for the year 2012 -- which is man made and does not exist except in our own measurements!

Look, we might all die in 2012, we might die in an hour, but it doesn't really matter, because is we all are going to die anyway. Not to mention the extreme irony in these people that say "God will save me" and then go off to make a list of all the girls he wants to bang before that. I don't know about you guys, but I'd rather being happy with God forever than having a 20 second orgasm with some girl I barely know.
