Javaxcx | Obtaining of any of that so-called "savior oil" won't do much good other than prolong the inevitible. Just watch and see: People will BEGIN to realize there is an issue, then when another source of oil is found to sustain them for 10 more years, they won't go apeshit over trying to find alternatives until the last minute... again.
|
You're right about that, I'm just saying that there's still quite some fossil fuels for the next while. I completely agree that reneweable energy sources should be looked into and developed (further).
Javaxcx | Read the article again: He says that coal gives off way too much pollution to be used on a grander world-wide scale. If coal could be refined NOT to give off as much pollution, well, who knows.
|
Coal-based powerplants are, just like solar energy, slowly being made more efficient. Coal still pollutes a heck of a lot, but I think the world has no other choice than to use coal energy on a large scale when oil is no more, because reneweable energy can't possibly comply with the world's growing energy demands anytime soon. Nuclear energy might be a solution, but many people (myself somewhat included) have reservations about that.
Nuclear fission, however, could be the energy source of the future, as it produces less nuclear waste than regular nuclear powerplants (nuclear splitting, or what's it called). Scientists have already succeeded in a 0% output, which is more than a negative value (meaning process doesn't actually cost power anymore, now input and output are the same). If they could succeed in actualy getting power out of it, then it could prove very useful.

Nuclear fission is the splitting of atoms; fusion is when atoms gain neutrons and become a heavier isotope, so in the way it's the opposite of fission. Which do you mean?

Oil may not be such a massive problem for transportation as it seems- alternative fuels that can use similar/the same engines are already a possibility.
Certain alcohols can be used in most of the cars on the road today...that is, if you convert a few of the hoses to different materials(metal tubing rather than rubber hoses). Much cleaner, more efficient energy, and easy to produce- anyone and their mother in law can make moonshine.
Hydrogen, also, could be used, with a few alterations in car design- either in fuel cells or internal combustion. That has the added bonus of being storable in much greater quantities and in much smaller tanks, since it is in gas form. The big problem with that is you need electricity to separate water molecules, since water is pretty much our only source of hydrogen.

Money= Power, and oil companies have large quantities of both.
I'll bet anyone in here $50 that every oil company on the globe already has a backup plan for when the petroleum runs out. Until that happens, they want people buying oil- supply and demand. The less there is, the more people will pay for it. Thus, the oil companies make more money as their supply of oil gets smaller and smaller. Until, of course, there isn't any left, at which point they'll turn to alternative fuel sources that can be controlled and limited. Since, like I said, any dumb inbred moron can brew up some alcohol, they'll probably go to hydrogen instead, since not as many people can produce that themselves.

Why are people trying so hard to save a world which has already been doomed to destruction?
