GeForce 4 MXs are crappy cards. They can't play Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow.

You should see quite a big difference - the 9600 Pro is a pretty good card (in most cases better than GFFX 5700U, in DX9 games like Half-Life 2, beats a 5900 Ultra at times), but the 9800 Pro beats the 9600 Pro in every game - it's simply a higher-end card...

Thanks all! Smile

Everyone is telling me to buy a ATI 9800. But, I have a Nvidia, so wouldnt that conflict with everything? Ahhh im so computer dumb!

If you can get an ATI Radeon 9800 or 9800 Pro, that's definitely the best card you can get for the money.

For $200, you can get a 9800 Pro 128MB - which will beat any GeForce FX in most games and slaughters them in DX9 games like Half-Life 2, etc.

For $100, you could go for a 9600 Pro 128MB, but if you can get the 9800, go for it.

As far as a conflict with your current nVidia, yes, sometimes there are issues switching from nVidia to ATI and vice versa - some of it is deliberately caused so as to cause the user trouble when being "unloyal" Very Happy Use a driver cleaner, though, and you should be fine - such as the one at DriverHeaven.net.

I have a GF4-Ti4200 and I'm able to play both Deus Ex 2 and Far Cry, though if I adjust settings on FC any higher than med I start to get a little lag. Deus Ex is one of my all time favorite single player games but DE2 was a bit of a disapointment.

it seems highly unlikely that you will need a secondary power supply for your card.

Besides, if you are that concerned about your hardware skills is it really worth making the saving on the card rather than paying someone else?

I have yet to come across a GPU a 10 year couldnt fit, especially since it it also highly doubtful you have more than one AGP slot on your system!!

Buy it, take the side off your case, plug it in, case back together, power on.

voila.

I also have a Ti4200. it kicks the crap out of the FX5200 for the same price. Very Happy

The only cards that you can buy currently that require an external power adapter are the GFfx 5900 series (all of them), and the Radeon 9800 Pro and XT, but not the SE.

The GF 6800 series requires 2.

signatures suck

Don't forget that the GF4 Ti series are DirectX 8 compliant cards, whereas the GF4 MX series are DirectX 7 compliant cards. Big difference.
