Assuming you run windows 98.

You must startup the pc with a startup disk.
On the command line type:

fdisk [enter]

It will ask you if you want to enable support for large drives, answer this with yes.

Then, you must choose to "Create a primary partition" it will ask you if you want to use all space available and make the partition active.
In your case, since you dont know FDISK its best to answer this with yes.

Once this is completed restart your pc with the startup-disk again and on the command line type:

format c: /v:win98 [enter]

it will format the drive into FAT32. When this is complete you insert your Win98 cdrom and run x:\win98\setup.exe and from there on you can install windows 98 onto your pc Smile

Get a friend of yours (if you have any ;P j/k) or someone who knows what he has to do.
Its very frustrating if you mess it up and your PC isnt working :S Razz

did you leave your old drive in it?

You must set one of the harddrive as 'Slave' and the other as 'Master'

and seriously dude: get someone who knows what he is doing or your pc may not work at all :/

Dont have to be.

You can put both drives on their own cable.
But depending on wether there is another device on this cable (like cdrom/dvdrom).

If this dvdrom/cdrom was already on this cable by itself alone it is set to Master. This means the HD must be Slave.

If you want to put the drive on a cable alone you must set it to Master.
If you connect it to a shared cable (2 devices) you must check that the first device on this cable is set to Master and the other to Slave.
__________

Edit: Your HardDrive and Floppy Disk Drive are two completely different cables. You cannot attach a FDD to an IDE-channel and vice versa.
