Okay well:

First. We had Win 98. Everything was going well [maps loaded fast.]
Then. We bought MUCH new things, hard disks, XP, motherboard etc..

After that. I installed Renegade again. It was working well. Loading times were fasts..

Then that Maxtor's hard drive broke [XP & Renegade was installed to it].
So we had to buy new hard disk. Well. Exactly: We bought 2 Maxtor SATA-drivers.

Well.. I installed Renegade, this time. Maps loaded about in 15-45 secs. [Before: 2-8] And yes. I tested Fixed Westwood Maps, it didn't help. And with RenAlert, maps loaded about 2 secs.

But well.. We had to reinstall XP [don't ask why.. Wink ]

And now. I installed Renegade earlier. Just tested it..
Tried 3 times. Loading times was about 5 MINUTES! So server kicked me [too long loading time?].

I'm gonna test RenAlert later..

So if any1 know how to fix it. Say it.

XP is Home Edition.
And Renegade was working fast with IDE-disks. But with SATA-disk. It was REALLY SLOW.
So.. Is there some problems with Renegade & SATA-disk?

And. You would ask does my other games work fast? Yes. At least Halo works normal. [I haven't installed other games yet..]

I'll answer if you got questions..

It probalby loads slower the 1st time, or it could be on the server's end.

Okay. After I tired to that. I uninstalled Renegade.

Now, when I go to installing it.. NO TEXT SHOWING UP!

The buttons come. But.. No text inside.

That's damn annoying, and I can't install it..

Hmm. SATA hard drives should be better than standard ones, since they're more expensive. Do you happen to know the RPM speed of your new hard drive?

Let me get this straight. A new hard drive slowed the loading times a bit, then a reinstall of XP slowed them down mega. If you're new hard drive has a slower speed, that would probably affect performance. But a reinstall.. maybe you had a faulty install of XP. The only thing I could possibly suggest is you format your drive and reinstall XP. But wait and see if anyone can come up with something else..

SATA-drivers are faster than IDEs.. Not slower. That would be good explanation if they would.. But. They aren't.

Speed is 7400.
And I'm not sure about was the old one 5400.

I guess I made everything right on installing. But I can test it if someone else doesen't got better idea..
I don't have too much to lose, almost nothing installed yet..

Microsoft

If you play the game on a Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Window Millennium Edition-based computer and you experience poor performance and instability, make sure direct memory access (DMA) is enabled.

When you enable DMA on your computer, you improve the game performance and stability.

XP is NT-based.. Confused

Btw. I tried looking at there. Didn't find DMA settings. I think that's becose it isn't based on 98 / ME.

There is an option in the registry somewhere called "ConservativeSwapFileUsage" setting this to 1 will make Windows use the System Ram 100% before using the swapfile.

I forgot where this exactly is though :S
Its also an option you have to manually enter so searaching for it wont work.

Anyone know where this is? I like to change this again :S

zunnie, I don't know where that registry entry is, however this freeware program called FAST Defrag has the option to enable conservative swap file usage. It is also an extremely useful problem. Download:

Loading has to do with the RAM if you have low RAM or a bad type its gonna load slow. I got mine to load alot faster when i opened MSconfig and stoped programs from starting when windows started....to do this go to start>run and type in msconfig and press ok... msconfig should come up click the "Start up" tab and uncheck any programs that you dont want to start up...after that click services and click "hide microsoft sevices" then click disable all. after that restart your comp and see if renegade will load faster.

It would be wicked if Black Hand Studios could release a mod for Renegade that loads normal Renegade in 2 seconds.

DMA can also be enabled in NT Based computers. Instead of appearing in the disk drive option, it appears in the controller settings. Also, are you using a SATA card or something built in on the mobo?
