	| I can't figure out how i can change my setting back to it's original one. every time i try to open up a folder, the damn search pops up. I right click and the bolded command is "Search..." It used to be "Open" but for some reason it was switched. I've removed all spyware and viruses on my computer and restarted but yet it doesn't change back and I can't figure out why.
 whoa.

	| Open up My Computer, then menu:
 Tools-> Folder Options-> "File Types" Tab.

 Wait for the list to populate, then scroll down until you find the "(NONE) Folder" file type. Click the item, then the 'advanced' button.

 If you then see the 'open' command in there, just set it as default.

	| Remove any 'open' entries that you have made. Create a new text file with a .REG extension, then paste the following code and save it.

 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\open]
"BrowserFlags"=dword:00000010
"ExplorerFlags"=dword:00000012
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\open\command]
@=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,6f,00,74,00,25,\
  00,5c,00,45,00,78,00,70,00,6c,00,6f,00,72,00,65,00,72,00,2e,00,65,00,78,00,\
  65,00,20,00,2f,00,69,00,64,00,6c,00,69,00,73,00,74,00,2c,00,25,00,49,00,2c,\
  00,25,00,4c,00,00,00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\open\ddeexec]
@="[ViewFolder(\"%l\", %I, %S)]"
"NoActivateHandler"=""
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\open\ddeexec\application]
@="Folders"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\open\ddeexec\ifexec]
@="[]"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\open\ddeexec\topic]
@="AppProperties"
 Then just run the REG file and click 'yes' to the prompt.

 This is pretty much a work-around way of doing the same thing as if you'd gone through the 'Folder Options>File Types' tab.

	| My bad, just insert this new line at the start of the REG file.
 If using Win95/98/2000/ME...

 If using Windows XP...

 Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

	| Apologies for bumping this old thread, but this needs to be said....
 I've just had the exact same problem as you're experiencing, and thankfully i found out what the cause and cure is.

 | Quote: | | This problem occurs when you open the Edit File Type dialog box for the Drive or File Folder registered file types.

 This problem occurs even if you do not create a new action, edit existing actions, or change the default action in the Edit File Type dialog box.

 For future reference to people, here is the fix:

 Basically, it's yet another rediculous bug inside Windows XP. :rolleyes:
