Hmm. SATA hard drives should be better than standard ones, since they're more expensive. Do you happen to know the RPM speed of your new hard drive?
Let me get this straight. A new hard drive slowed the loading times a bit, then a reinstall of XP slowed them down mega. If you're new hard drive has a slower speed, that would probably affect performance. But a reinstall.. maybe you had a faulty install of XP. The only thing I could possibly suggest is you format your drive and reinstall XP. But wait and see if anyone can come up with something else..

Loading has to do with the RAM if you have low RAM or a bad type its gonna load slow. I got mine to load alot faster when i opened MSconfig and stoped programs from starting when windows started....to do this go to start>run and type in msconfig and press ok... msconfig should come up click the "Start up" tab and uncheck any programs that you dont want to start up...after that click services and click "hide microsoft sevices" then click disable all. after that restart your comp and see if renegade will load faster.

DMA can also be enabled in NT Based computers. Instead of appearing in the disk drive option, it appears in the controller settings. Also, are you using a SATA card or something built in on the mobo?
