Suceed? Don't you mean secede?

On Topic: Canada has a MILITARY? Does their Navy consist of scuttled WWII ships too? Razz

I wonder why do you all worry so much about such a stupid thing. Doesn't the US Govenment have enough military stuff? There are more important things in the world. There are even bigger problems in the planet to worry about.
Oh, Aprime, we fight with bows and poison darts, and what's the problem? We don't need $5 Billion tanks or such. We may not be perfect (our govenment I mean), but here we don't spend so many money for such things. Cool

As far as I'm concerned, most of the tech advances, come from the laboratories (public or not), then they can have a military application or not, it depends on how far can the project go. It's not necessary that investigations have to come out of military projects.

For example: mother cells implantation to repair internal damaged organs...
And most of the medical investigations. And the discovering of the radiactive materials emissions wasn't initially thought as a mass weapon. Americans used that initial knowledge for their atom bombs as well as Germans in WW2.

Everythign comes down to surviability. If you dont have a military to defend yourself with high tech weapons, then your not going to survive. When will you tree hugging hippies learn this?

If I recall correctly, the original plan was to build 700+ F-22s to be put into service sometime in 2002. Well after a couple of cutback we're at somewhere around 400 planes for service entry in 2005. But the F-22 won't be cancelled, we need it to maintain air superiority. The F-15s of today's battle are still very capable, and our pilots are the best trained in the world. However, Russian fighters of today can perform manuvers that far exceed what the F-15 can do. That's one reason we need the F-22.

There was an interesting program, I think during the 80's, that proposed a massive update to the F-15 design- it would have incorporated forward canards for additional maneuverability, as well as a thrust nozzle type very similar to the one on the F-22(able to be angled up and down). That variant, of which several prototypes were produced, had a much shorter takeoff run, higher fuel efficiency, and was a massive improvement over the current C and E variants. The program was, of course, scrapped due to its projectedcost, but it would have brought the F-15 up to par with the F-22's performance(all except for stealth) without the need for a whole new airframe(and at least a decade or two earlier).

Actually teh fastest operational Fighter is the Mig-31

but if Bush can cancel these programs so that Halliburton can provide our Troops with $20 lunches he will.

Only because the Arrow was cancelled. 1957, and the ability to go faster than mach 2, perhaps mach 3. If the technology had developed from that point, imagine what speeds Canadian Aircraft would be capable of today.

Stupid Canadian Government.

Canada is a COUNTRY? And it has a MILITARY?

Whoa!

pfff.. n00b.

Just because our dozen ships (a few actually in the water ), 2-3 squadrons of f-18's, our few remaining functioning seakings, and our primary forces off doing the majority of the worlds peacekeeping doesn't compare to your military doesn't mean we haven't burned down the whitehouse before! Honestly, I don't think you have a clue what you're talking about. Anyways...

I disagree. What would you say is a bigger issue than homeland defense? You have to remember what we learned from 9-11, that there are people out there who hate us for whatever reason, and would sacrafice themselves to kill as many of us as possible. We need power to maintain stability. Once we are secure enough then we can worry about other things.

Ditto. Good training goes hand in hand with quality, up-to-date equipment. Lose either, and your military becomes less effective. Every so often, our military hardware needs to be updated so that it can beat anything it might come up against in combat. That way, we don't have to suffer casualties due to outdated technology.

Also, it's the old "he who has the biggest gun makes the rules" line- we want to be the ones that have the biggest gun, so that we don't get picked on by other nations. A huge part of security comes straight out of a fear of what could be done to you as a consequence of your actions- if you see that your opponent has a weapon that is most assuredly going to kick the living crap out of you if you attack them, you'll probably think twice about it. Thus, even if they are never used in combat, shiny new war machines make this country a safer place.
