Has anyone gotten the flu yet, because at my high school there have been about 5 - 7 people absent from all of the classes 90 some people have been absent all week, and at one school in Connecticut (the state I live in) over 300 kids were absent from a school and they had to shut it down and get the whole school disinfected. Whatever this flu is, it is bad, I have it, my mom does, my dad, alot of people at all of the schools. The symptoms of this are as follow. . . Running a fever (I had a fever of 104.7 yesterday morning Sad ), Coughing very badly, Feeling tired, Sleeping alot or not being able to sleep well. I am stuck in my house, and can't go anywhere at all except around my house untill my temperature is gone for 24 hours, so if I have a temperature on Sunday I can't go to school on Monday. I went to the doctors Friday and they did a finger prick and took some blood, they tested it and said that the blood count was higher than it should be, so they thought I was getting pneumonia, so then they had to take more blood from my arm so they could get alot more than 20 drops from my finger. They took more blood so they could test it more thoroughly and try to find out what I have, they sent me over to some other place to get a chest x-ray to see if I was getting pneumonia so I got that done then an hour after the x-rays we called up the doctors office, and I have to take some pill now, and the chest x-rays say that I am not getting pneumonia, so they think I just have the flu. Alot of peoplea are getting it, and on average they have been sick with it for 3 - 5 days.

I hope I get well soon, I have to take a new pill I got yesterday, Albuterol 2 puffs every 4 hours, Singular 1 pill a day, and Advair 2 puffs a day, one in the morning and one at night. I couldn't sleep well at all Thursday night, I think I only got an hour of sleep I kept waking up every ten minutes after I would fall asleep, litterally, I was watching the clock in my bed room the whole time while petting my kitten that was laying next to my bed, at about 4 o'clock I finally went downstairs to use the bathroom, I got some water then layed on my couch trying to fall asleep but with no success. Then it was Friday which is where my first post comes into place. I can't believe I'm stuck in my house untill my temperature is gone for 24 hours. Ohh well, it's a weekend I probably would have stayed at home anyways. My best friend has been out sick all week due to the flu, except maybe Friday since I wasn't at school on Friday. . . Thank You MonkeyPhonic!

So it isn't just Connecticut that has it. . . This sucks, I can't leave my house at all, and I haven't eaten anything since Thursday because whenever I get sick I'm not hungry. . . I know I have to eat so I tried but then I felt like I had to throw up this sickness is really pissing me off, maybe I'll have some soup. How many of you would like chicken noodle soup without the chicken in it, just chicken broth and noodles, I wish one of those soup companies made something like that because I hate picking out all of the chicken, I rarely eat chicken and if I do it is either A. Fajitas, or B. Bufalo Style Chicken I have no Idea how many people in my school were absent yesterday, I haven't talked to any of my friends yet. But I image it's some where between 90 - 100 people which is almost 25% of my school I think.

That's strange.. an epidemic. Flu doesn't tend to last more than a week, but your on pills? Man, it must be a more serious version of flu. I don't understand how it's spread so fast. Maybe it's a type of disease that's easily spreadable. Either way, that is suspicious. GW soon, and try to find out what caused the epidemic.

This is what one of my (reallife) friends told me what was going on down in South Carolina. Screenname editted...

Quote:

tennis*****2005 (7:47:24 PM): yeh. at my sister's the school yesterday 100 ppl were out with the flu and 150 went home early
tennis*****2005 (7:47:29 PM): they only have about 400 ppl
pastorofpizzahvn (7:47:37 PM): wow
pastorofpizzahvn (7:47:45 PM): thats you call a plague
tennis*****2005 (7:47:56 PM): yeh, and the hospitals and doctor offices are over flooding with people.

Now I will remind you were she lives, the population is only about 2,500.

Anywho, same thing has been going on at my school also and family. My father, mother, sister, and my brother (whose in DC) have gotten it, this has all been going on now for about six weeks. Strangly enough I have not gotten the flu. I am usually the first at my school/family to get sick...but not this time. So I am hoping Im immune to it.

Don't have it here yet...no more absences than usual. I've been feeling a bit under the weather, but I haven't been getting enough sleep, so the flu has little to do with it. Not that it would matter anyway, I got a flu shot not too long ago...

Hope you get well soon, and I hope that your flu doesn't end up where I live. Sad

Before you get too bogged down in conspiracy theories, flu like many other viral deseases are not predictable, and often outbreaks can be small and local or nationwide epedemics with out any clear indication of where the outbreak originated.
Historicaly speaking most viral infections, especialy flu originate in the far east, often making their first public appearence in places like Hong Kong and China. Which is why flu vacinations are made by going to these counties, finding the latest flu bug, and culturing an inocculation based on the variants that appear to be most likely to make it to the Western world.
Flu can be a killer, tho it is not often outbreaks occur to such an extent that mass casualties are involved. Notable exceptions are epademics such as the variant known as Spanish flu which broke out at the end of the First World War. The eventual death toll was greater than the total loss of life caused by the war that preceded it. Almost all the deaths were in the old, young and the many injured from WW1 and were attributed to the lack of resources and food caused by the war.
The good news is tho, that your in the lowest possible risk catagory. Just don't die and make me look like an idiot. Razz

Here in Holland, 5 out of every 10.000 people currently have the flu (according to a newspaper) and they called it an epidemic... Smile

Get well soon though.

Yes, lots and lots of people where i live have gotten the flu. I live in Southern California (Los Angeles county), and it IS COOOOOOOLLLLDDDD.

Lots of people were absent from my school, and some of my friends were sick along with their families. I am a lucky one...I have not gotten it ever.

However on the bright side, Christmas is coming soon so children aren't going to go to school for winter break, and that will help stop the spread of influenza. Same with work. That'll give a sort of Global Relief from it.

Get well soon all those who have it. Smile
