Renegade is dying: Do this to save it. [message #57244] |

Meh, I'm setting up an AOW (with themes later if I get an established community for it) server which seems to be liked by players who are currently joining it, we were testing it this morning, it was almost full.
And I'm PLANNING to give a server to n00bstories, I'm still un-sure yet because it's in a office in Australia, and we'd need a T1 connection to run it, Madtone's doing is best to convince his boss ATM.
I gave up a while ago on Prime Servers because 1 = They weren't liked and 2 = No money.
I suck cock and love it... absolutely love it. And I just got banned for being too immature to be allowed to post here.

warranto | or...
We could lead a consumer-lead buyout of the Westwood name and rights, and start the company up again!
|
Ya know, I have often wondered why some of the good programmers in the community haven't gotten together to do something similar to this? Not actually buy Westwood back, as I doubt that EA would sell it, but get together and make a game, get the servers, and all the other stuff that is needed to do it. You know, there are plenty of people that are in the community that are capable of this.
Take some of the Ren Alert people for example, take Dante (who obviously knows something about programming), Mac (who knows about the fds programming), I could keep going on and on.
Has anyone else ever thought about it? We have graphics people, great mapmakers, and coders......what else do you need to start a game making bussiness? I'd be intrested in hearing logical thoughts on this, and I'd also be willing to help out on it if a group of people wanted to get together and try to do it.

first of all, a lot more than like 10 people would be involved in such a project. you need a lot of funds to get off the ground. very talented designers. you need to keep up with the costs of running a business, and you need to be profitable in your game products or you'll go bust. the equipment needed to make a game from scratch and to design a new game would be a lot more complex than simply using someone elses engine (unless that's what your idea is.. use another game engine like Quake 3, to make a shoot em' up game) like the Reborn and Ren alert mod teams have done. I don't know how a new engine is made, that is in all likelyness very complex, and you'd probably need a degree in university to learn about it.
I like your idea but it seems a bit far fetched at the moment for Renegade fans, however talented, and you'll need a lot of dosh to get something like this started.

I realize that it would take more than ten people. As for the cash, it's easier to get than you think. Granted, the first game would have to be coded and made with some kind of contract stating that people would get paid with a certain percentage of the profits from the sales. (gotta start somewhere)
First, come up with an idea
Second, start the coding process (and yes, whoever did this would prolly have to use someone elses engine)
Third, go to a bank, and get a small Buissness loan.
You would start off selling the game for a very small profit, in hopes of selling more of the game at a lower profit. (kinda like what Wal-Mart does with all of it's stuff) If you ask the same price as what Halo or some other game sells for, you don't sell as many copies.
All you need is a start, think about how many people buy computer games everyday.

Them being Me, seth, Alan, Advance, Striker, Stryker, Sweden, Jelly, warstommper, and a few others that arnt part of the ren community. We are tring to make a game and have made posts here before trying to recruit more people always to be flamed out saying "it will never happen" so thats why you've never heard about us.
We or should i say I started out with the stupidly named Mapping Squad and we were makeing a mod called The Rise of The Alians. I met seth and bolth our groups started working on the same project and it soon grew into Case 9 Studios me being Co-Founder becuse seth thought of the name. Now we are here planning games to make and not doing anything, mostly cuz we need more members who can code.
Our current project (i think it says it in my sig) would be Tides of War an online RPG being programmed solely by warstommper ATM and some models being contributed by me. The rest of the team though insent doing anything cuz we havent made any set desitions on what we are going to make.
But only time will tell.
