BERLIN (Reuters) - Hollywood star Johnny Depp (news) said on Wednesday the United States was a stupid, aggressive puppy and he would not live there until the political climate changed.

The 40-year-old actor, who stars in the "Pirates of the Caribbean," told the German news magazine Stern he was happier staying in the south of France with his wife, the French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis (news), and their two children.

"America is dumb, it's like a dumb puppy that has big teeth that can bite and hurt you, aggressive," he said.

"My daughter is four, my boy is one. I'd like them to see America as a toy, a broken toy. Investigate it a little, check it out, get this feeling and then get out," said the star of the off-beat films "Edward Scissorhands" and "Dead Man."

Depp slammed George W. Bush's administration for its criticism of French opposition to the U.S.-led war in Iraq (news - web sites).

"I was ecstatic they re-named 'French Fries' as 'Freedom Fries'. Grown men and women in positions of power in the U.S. government showing themselves as idiots," he told Stern.

he can tell his kids whatever he wants as long as it's not verbal abuse, in which case child welfare would pluck them up.

... you can't stop parents from expressing their opinions towards their kids, in my eyes what he's telling his kids isn't a whole lot dangerous compared to what white suburban families might be telling their kids about muslims or whatever, look at the KKK and the demons they spawn.

besides, he was only good in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Blow blew.

Eh, who cares, he's a sack of shit... We're better off without him. Suitable for France, though.

Johnny Depp was a gomer to begin with. As far as I'm concerned, and can continue his little enterage by playing pirates and fairies and other things that he fondles under his bedcovers.

Agreed. I would be happy to revoke his citizenship.

I hated France. The arey disrespectful, rude, pompous, anti-american jackasses.

And this was in 98 before this whole Iraq thing.

I can't begin to imagine what it's like now. Besides, this joker lives in france, with his french wife. It's not like he's gonna have the cohones to say anything different. Ask him how America would have responded to thousands of it's citizens dying due to 110 degree temps.

A civilized nation LIKE AMERICA would NOT let it get to the point of thousands dying because of a freaking heat wave. That just screams of mismanagement, and lack of care for citizens.

sorta like the black out? lol, granted no one died in the black out, but it was still mis-management

tempratures hit 40 degrees, that's just fucking nuts and possibly a result of green house gases and global warming,

u know, Kyoto and stuff?

No, probably not. Kyoto was a joke, and even then, it's ironic how the heat wave affected the very nations that proposed AND signed the protocol.

I don't know whether to laugh, or just laugh. Global warming is a joke.

What's such a joke about it?

Anyway, Depp made a stupid comment with poor language. I wonder if he really does stand for anything at all.

might want to check up on the source for the original article... reuters has been shown many times to make up the "facts" in articles they print.

not saying my sources are better, but the story i read when that first came out did not have him saying the us was dumb or anything like that. it had him saying the us was like a big puppy and agressive while europe was an old dog more patient.
he also stated the next day that he meant no offense to the us and that he loves the us.
johnny depp is an ok actor in my opinion... not great, just ok. he is welcome to his opinions, i just wish that for his sake, his opinions would be reported properly.

Hm. What's this I see? Oh, it's the fucking bandwagon.

Congratulations on hating France just because everyone else does.

Wow, they disagree with our countries policies. WOOO! Let's lynch those bastards now!

Jeez, support your country, but you don't have to hang off Bush's every word like a lemming.

Why not lynch them. They vandalized the graves of US Soldiers that died for THEIR freedom.

Dude i can assure you global warming isnt a joke, kyoto is also certanly not a joke, and yes the heat wave affected the very nations that proposed and signed the protocol as it is a GLOBAL issue, the usa not signing the protocol just showed the ignorance and inability to accept that we have to change our ways in order to sustain this planet of ours. The US is resopnisble for about 40 % of the pollution released into the atmosphere, the usa is the single biggest polluter of the atmosphere. those of us that live in other countries who are trying to lower our consumption and output of fossil fuels and industrial waste for the good of the planet. we have had to make changes in our industry, which has cost billions, and yet the last remaining "super power" isnt willing to do so.

oh and by the way im not french, im an english man who is growing a little dismayed at the US's attitude towards the rest of the world. And before you say how you saved us from the nazis in world war 2 may i remind you that, before pearl harbour, the us ignored the whole situation, and after the war it made the UK PAY for the services the usa provided, sounds kinda like a mercenary action.

The american way....Ignorance is bliss

I like actors like Johnny Depp that don't follow type casting, as well as learn to say "no" to a script.

I respect him as an actor, and think that he has chosen all of his movies wisely, and i have personally enjoyed all of them.

here is my 2 cents.

Bad move in comparing it to an agressive puppy. Sounds bad on him. Although Now that i think of it, its right.

I think all that just goes to show that he is not oblivious to the word, like so many others are.
