Can anyone explain how to remove this thing? It's blocking the hard drive bay, preventing the installation of a slave drive. It looks like you can push the tabs down or out, but they won't budge. MY friend and I have spent awhile trying to get it off, but nothing works.

That's one hell of a heatsink. My guess is that those tabs pull out a bit and then up. What type of CPU is that heatsink sitting on?

Could just be secured very tightly.
Have you still got the installation manual for your PC? If the shop you bought the computer from done the installation for you, or know how to install the PC, contact them and ask them.

rm5248 | HAHAHA yes a 1 gig HDD does taint its glory. i have 40 gig on my laptop

It does have room for 5, though, so...
The thing I really like about the case, though, is the fact that you don't just slide a drive into a bay and mount it there, you put each drive into a tray, and thus it's removable easily. (Each level in the 3.5" internal bays in the interior pics is removable, as are the floppy and CD bays. There's even a removable mobo tray, too.)
Edit: And on the topic of weird heatsinks, I just found this at New Egg. The Bloomin' Onion of heatsinks!

Don't know if you want to know this anymore or not, but you might try pulling the little tabs up. Thats how most 478 HSF are installed.
And for a 478 heatsink, it's not very big at all.
signatures suck

Them heatsinks actually can cool down your high performing chips fairly well as long as you have some airflow through your system. The copper base absorbs the heat then the aluminium pins dissipate it. The more fins or pins the heatsink has, the better at getting rid of heat it is.
This is the zalman flower passive cooling, it actually works really well.
