I own and XT and I love it... Alienware... I changed the vid card in it cuz it stopped working 2 days after the service plan expired on it it fried .... Mad Mad Mad  Typical Service plan

Alienware...You lucky bastard. Post some pics of your rig. I just drool over Alienwares.

Yano, those Quadro's are so crazy. They do cost a pretty penny though. ATi's line of professional cards are powerful and expensive as hell to. ATi FireGL

9800XT.

The pro cards (e.g. nVidia Quadro, ATI FireGL) are aimed, of course, more towards graphics apps and are optimized for them. As such, their gaming performance is in almost all cases below the level of the companies' consumer cards (sometimes a little, sometimes a lot).

I never get drops to 5 FPS, and the lowest I have gotten with my vid card is 20 FPS in a 56 person game that was full.

Here are my com specs if it matters why i don't get an FPS drop to 5 . . .

Yup, the Radeon 9800 is still better. It was the same with the 9000 and the GeForce 4. The 9000 was better. Hell, the 9700 and 9800 are both better than the FX.

The nvidia comparable to the XT would be the FX 5950, which Nvidia released to try and compete with it. But as usual it was rushed and did not perform as well, though do no get me wrong it will blow away almost anything else.

And ya those professional cards are totally optimized for special professional level apps. You were 100% right Smile

I know price doesn't matter to you, but seriously, the 9800 pro 128mb card costs $200+ less (XT = $500, 9800 PRO 128 = $300 or less, shop around) and its performance is almost identical to the XT's in most situations. The only noticeable difference would be in the most demanding games on the highest AA and graphics settings, and benchmarks show only an increase of about 5 FPS.

I'd recommend a 9800 PRO 128 over a 9800XT anyday simply because of the extreme difference and cost and huge similarity in performance.

http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/20030930/radeon_9800-14.html#unreal_tournament_2003

You could just slightly overclock the 9800 PRO 128 to make up in the performance difference from the XT, at NO EXTRA COST!

Renegade always does that. It isn't 100% foolproof.

About the GFX cards... I'd say the 9800XT is aimed primarily at gamers, so it will perform best for gamers.

However, all the cards mentioned here are high end, top of the line, insane performance.

I'd be happy with either card, but if you want best performance, listen to all the others here and go with the XT.

And for whoever posted about the $2000 Quadro card....
It is for graphical software rather than gaming.
And so is.....

Mines 1900MHz and it still slows down on maps with tons of AI. Lots of AI=bad. That's why I keep them down about 8-16 in every map, good gameplay, but your machine can still handle it, even when it's hosted on multiplayer. Anyway, it's not the best high end graphic card, but it's still my baby, and I love it. The Radeon All In Wonder VE (cheap stock computer didn't come with AGP slots for the 7500). Runs battlefeild fine, not so much Planetside, Ren runs great on it too. Along with the connection for TV, I can watch TV while I chat online in a window above it. I've hooked everything up to this computer, playstation, n64, VCR's to record VHS movies digitally, and of course, my analog camera to make some skate vids. I love my card because Battlefeild is the most demanding game I play, so I don't need an expensive 128-256 card. I love my 64MB Smile .
