2 Notes, First, Sun almost never sells for the list price, it's usually below what list price is. the only time that you would have to pay full price was if you are an impatient person and have to have it NOW, then they would charge you extra for being a pain.
As for the Dell server:
1. It's Windows...great for desktops, shit for servers.
2. Dell servers have a max of 4 processors each. That server I linked to had a max of 106...
3. Sun installation is included. Dell, you have to pay for it. That bumps the price up to being about equal.
4. Dell maintenece is spotty at best, If you get a Sun support contract (like a warrenty), they will be there or the person who covers your system will have punishments (Fines, firing, looked down on) for not showing up (barring extreme cases: Act of God, part man doesn't deliver parts on time, etc).
5. Sun is 64-bits processesed per clock cycle. Dell is 32.
Peace out,

In the memory of Westwood Studios, I link to a song, the only song I feel is suited to describe this tragic event...taps

you can have up to 8 hard drives. also, 2 intel xeon processers. up to 4 media bay hard drives. also availible with a battery backup. and thats for the most expensive one. the cheaper ones are probably also fairly good, i think
BTW you can also install your own operating system on it. they can install it with linix or windows.

Up to 8 hard drives?!?!?! So? This sun server supports the Netra S1 Thin Storage (Boot Device); 250+ terabytes direct connect storage available; Fibre Channel, Low Voltage Differential and Differential SCSI supported; Sun StorEdge A5200; Sun StorEdge array products supported, Sun StorEdge 9900 products will be supported. I highly doubt that this would match any of the numbers of the Sun server listed above. 2 Intel xeon processors? Wow... I still can't bring myself to being impressed, especially after seeing that the server shown here is capable of holding up to 106 UltraSPARC III Cu 1.2-GHz processors and more than 1/2 TB Memory in a single domain... now this is impressive.
