Opening an old(ish) topic back up but oh well. We (GB) are right next to France; I don’t think we would appreciate the huge dust cloud lumbering over our country or the huge tidal wave caused by the impact. Spain and Germany would be affected a great deal too. In addition the joke is similar to telling a joke about 9/11, except it hasn’t happened, but there would be many more casualties.

How exactly would you be hit by a tidal wave if this meteor were to hit France? If the impact was great enough and close enough to the shore it would create shock waves that would cause tsunamis, but these wouldn't effect the area around France/Germany/Spain/Etc., the shock waves would be sent towards the UK, and towards North America.

Oh, and I can't believe that I missed this... Very Happy

Just like when the French didn't help us in the Terrorist Wars?
Like when the French didn't help us fight Great Britain?

They didn't help us fight Great Britain? Now which one is it... Are you a German; or do you just don't know jack shit about WWI or WWII?

When pieces of land plunge into the ocean they cause waves, if the piece of land was large enough, combined with the shock wave, it would cause a huge wave. Any meteor big enough to "completely wipe France from the face of the earth forever" is large enough to environmentally destroy Western Europe. Also GB is the UK, i'm telling you this because your post made it seem like you didn’t know, but i’m sure you did Smile . I’m not sure how a wave could reach the US, unless Spain fell off the map of course. The dust cloud formed by France getting wiped from the earth would at least remain over Europe for a few years.

Oh... I didn't notice the "(GB)"... Wink

And a tital wave isn't formed until the shockwave reaches sea floor high enough... The shockwave can travel accross the sea floor until it gets near North America, than when it reaches sea floor that is high enough, it creates a tital wave.

Good point on the tidal wave thing, using that knowledge the tidal wave may never even form properly before hitting Britain because of the small distance between the countries. The dust cloud is still un-arguable though. Your lucky in not one of those assholes that picks on spelling mistakes. Not that you care. Smile

Actually ignore that. Once the shockwave and the winds hit the air pressure will follow, literally sucking the ocean out from underneath itself. Also there would be rushing air behind it, pushing it.

Laughing I always run my posts through word, I guess it isn’t smart enough to pick mistakes like that out. I can’t believe I missed it.
