....to turn signatures off?? So that you don't have to see everyones signatures when reading threads etc...

Adminstrators can turn them off for EVERYONE, but there is no option for users to turn them off individually. I realize that huge sigs can be a PITA especially for modem users (yes some people still use those archaic analog devices), so when I see sigs that are a serious waste of bandwidth I ask the user to tone it down. There is also a hard limit set on the amount of text one can have in their sig.

And now, my lame sig... Wink

Thanks for the replies. I am actually on a cable modem & have no problem viewing the signatures... well I do. Some peoples signatures are real unnecessarily long & annoying to look at. It would be cool if there was like a signature length limit. A signature shouldn't be much more than (at the max) some sort of picture with some text.

You get the people quoting huge batches of text coupled with pics, and they type in a 1 line reply, then you see their real long signature.. it's the only thing I dislike about these boards. Everything else = cool.

I've been to a pair of other boards where you are judged by how big your sig is. I know that sounds bizzar but, I was just browsing and I saw this guy who had a sig like 10 miles long and people were aplauding him for it. :rolleyes:

I know it's easy to ignore them, but please, people like spreegem could you just untick that box every so often that says "attach signature" is it really necessary to have such a long sig in every post?

I took a couple lines out of my sig... the Renegade stats image really made it longer.

There's a new version of phpBB coming out in a couple weeks or months that includes hundreds of new features, including the option to not view other people's signatures. I'm like, reluctant to install it because I did a lot of custom modifications to the base code of phpBB to make it look like our old UBB boards, but we'll figure that out once it's released.

I'm the bawss.

Maybe you could open up the new version, and the version you used to create these forums and compare them in a text editor to see what's changed and add the new stuff into the current forum code...

And you could just update to the newer forums without hurting that much... The posts would still be there and the theme should still be there too. You'd just have to tweak it a little bit so that the new version works just as flawlessly with the current theme/settings.
