You should keep backups of your work. For everyhitng I do I have around 6 copies on a CD so it is protected. Also last year when I accidently formatted my wrong hard drive (hey I had 4, it was inevitable) I used a program called "Stellar Phoenix NTFS" and recovered every single document off the drive with no problem. The wondows installation on the drive was lost but all my files were safe.
If I run that program on my disk now I still have old Gmax files I deleted ages ago as they haven't been overwritten by new data yet. Obviously this program doesn't work as good if you have filled up your drive you formatted as the data will have been overwritten. When you format the drive it just marks everything blank. The only way to erase the data is to write "0's" to every sector of the drive, which would take long.
I work with computers and I still can't see how a PC can format a drive when it's off, even when it's on. The only thing similar to that is hard drive just going "dead" and no eing detected. However that problem is caused by a faulty drive controller chip and I have to send them away to be recovered.

Yes recent weeks ive been doing so much on my own due to the lack of staff working , im leaving because the mod was anticipated and i feel i have let the community down so much the only right move to do would be to leave.
I have used several programs before and they all failed so no point, the team only has models and that from a while ago, which recently we remade for better appearence.
I turned on my computer to find every windows file deleted, now i only have access to this computer and i have pc knowlage of 5 years so i am not that stupid, my pc has a PC Format option as many hp users will know.
I want the community to be strong because it needs and deserves to be more than it is, no matter what ill still be checkin on the forums looking at awsome new stuff coming out for Renegade, as for Generals , it can go to hell, the same as EA.
I played a good role in the community , it had its ups and downs but my time in it was more than fun, i did stress that if u ever need to talk to my i supplied my email on the site cncgenocide@aol.com .
I dont want Pity , ive left and thats it.
