Is there any program for Windows to organize my mp3's into artist folders or do you have to manually drag them into new folders?

Yeah, real juke box used to be able to do that. I'm not sure if you can still do it since it went to RealONE. It's in the options, under media or something.

Music Match jukebox is good for tagging diffrent songs and organising them in a media libary....

As for the organising of music in folders I hav no idea, I too would like that...

That'd be great...there really is no program that organizes mp3's on your harddrive.

just some media/playlist organizers....which dont move your files into sub-folders on your harddrive.

I went thru about 1/4 of my collection last night....With so many thousands of mp3's it's not a small task.

This day and age we shouldnt have to manually drag files into folder for hours and hours. Razz

This may be OT but it may be helpful for something. If you select multiple files in Windows XP and click "rename" then each file will be renamaed to the name yous specify on the first file then they will be auto-incrimented thereafter for each file. This is ideal if you say have 10 files with similar content and you want to give them the same name.

I've had my music seperated into folders by artist for quite awhile now...I started when I didn't have so much music, and when I have more than three songs by an artist I make them their own folder. Otherwise, I just pop the songs into a miscellaneous folder.

I suppose that doesn't help anyone, though Confused

FYI, i've started work on a program to sort mp3's into folders, based on what is written in the ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags.

If a couple of you guys could e-mail me (webmaster AT thecodesmith DOT com) a screenshot example of how you would like your folders organised, that'd help. Take a screenshot of a view in explorer, so i can see the tree of 3 or more folders.

Such as...

mp3 folder/Artist
mp3 folder/Album
mp3 folder/Album - Artist
mp3 folder/Artist - Album
mp3 folder/Artist/Album
mp3 folder/Album/Artist

Quote:

C:/Documents and Settings/Sk8rRIMuk/My Music/Artist - Album
-Files Inside-
Song Number (With Leading Zero) - Artist - Song.mp3 i.e. 01 - Foo Fighters - My Hero.mp3

C:/Documents and Settings/Sk8rRIMuk/My Music/Playlists
-Winamp Playlists Here-
Rock(Playlist One).m3u

C:/Documents and Settings/Sk8rRIMuk/My Music
-Files Inside (UnSorted MP3's)-
Artist - Song.mp3

That's how I organize all my music... I would love something like that...

Also a great thing would be able to optionally prefix th files with a song number, especially since I only number files inside album folders.

If you were to be able to prefix them you should be able to remove them at will (say for mp3 compilations).

Sorry I can't e-mail a screenshot becuase I am at college (disallowed hotmail and don't have HDD with me) but I hope it's better than nothing Smile.

Yeah i can do that easily, one thing you must make sure is...

Music you need to have the number prefix, must have the track number in either ID3 tag.

The same goes for tracks you don't want to have the prefix - they must not have a track number in either ID3 tag.

As for the rest, like the track number prefix removal, it's all easily done.

I began working on the code a few nights back and it worked like a dream, only now i have to recode the whole thing to get the track numbers too! Ah well, gotta be done properly. Laughing
