I have freshly installed Renegade TFD from disc.
I have an unique serial and everything.
I applied the 1.037 core patch after install.
I then downloaded and installed the 4.1 patch from www.tiberiantechnologies.org
Everything works fine, except in WWConfig.exe it wont let me put the resolution higher than 1280x960
I run windows 8.1. Renegade is in windowed mode, however full-screen didn't work either.
I have tried to put the 1.037 wwconfig.exe at the 4.1 version. It showed me the 1680x1050 resolution, but it wouldnt apply it.

My screen does support 1920x1080 and so does my graphics card. (I currently have my laptop hooked onto a full hd screen, however the screen that is attached to my laptop is also full hd.)

PS:
Some other related bug. I tried applying 4.1 patch when the multiplayerforums were offline. It fucked up my installation but did show to servers that I was v4.1
It never gave me any warning that the installation failed. It just showed that it succeeded.

Not sure what kind of installer you used that requires a connection to 'multiplayerforums'...

Uninstall and reinstall using the steps in this sticky:

The 4.1 installer does indeed get files from a mpf hosted website.
Its just not documented anywhere. It's about 2GB's of files in various languages to support the community installation of 4.1
Only downside is that the installer skips those files if the website is down. It does not happen a lot though.
The installer should notify the user to 'try again later' though.

I actually did exactly that what is described in that topic. I even tried another reinstall. It's not working.

You can manually edit the resolution in the registry:

HKCU\Software\Westwood\Renegade\Render

Change the RenderDeviceWidth and RenderDeviceHeight keys. You may not have to necessarily do this, but if I recall the last time I installed Renegade (a month or so ago) I had to manually change the registry to get my game resolution to match my monitor's native resolution.

4.X had a bug with its wwconfig that would often cause it to have issues properly detecting/displaying resolutions, for me it always displayed 800x600, so I often ended up having to make a copy of the original Ren one just so I could keep changing my settings.

Saberhawk should have it fixed in 4.2.
