Does Ren work on Win 7 and Win 8?

If yes, which editions do I need? I mean is Home edition enough or I need Pro or Ultimate etc..?

Additionally do I need to run it in XP mod or something to be able to run Ren?

It will run just fine on any W7 or W8 version (well, except on Windows RT but you can't install that on a regular PC anyway afaik)

So is it just a myth that Ren does not work on win 7 or win 8?

Normally it *should* work on W7/8 but might have some issues (you might need to run it in admin-mode or something like that). With the www.tiberiantechnologies.org community patch it will work for sure, and without admin-mode. The patch contains numerous bugfixes for renegade so it'll make your game experience even better than before Smile

I've been playing Renegade on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit for like a year and it works perfectly.

I run on Windows 8 64bit and its fineeeeeeee.

Only problem I had on windows 7 was to do with administration privledged, running the application in administrator wasn't always enough.

Resolved it by turning off UAC

On W7/8 AUC actually provides added security, so I wouldn't recommend turning it off overall.

Yea I know but...

1. I watch what I download, so I generally won't have any viruses/trojans and stuff

2. People who are "average" PC users just press Yes/Ok to the dialog anyways because they don't realize what they could mean

Therefore i cba with its shitty notifications every 2 seconds

That's what I think of it. Indeed, most of the average users blindly press the OK button and continue with their tasks. For the more advanced or experienced user it is just "yet-another-annoying-windows-feature" that breaks their workflow.

Which, in most cases, is OK because you were expecting the UAC popup as a result of what you did. The whole point is that if it pops up when you're NOT expecting it to (ie: for Java to do nag you about it's goddamned updates AGAIN!) then you take more time to read what it is that's asking for permission to run.

I've never turned UAC off since the day I installed Vista (which was the day it went RTM), it's not really an annoyance, just an extra safety net to guard against rogue programs.

I get maybe 3 or 4 a day. If you're seeing them every two seconds there is something seriously wrong with your PC.

Iv seen people who get the pop up, don't read it at all, and press OK, most of my friends/family do it.

I get the idea that if it appears when you aren't expecting anything to appear, people pay closer attention, however, same applies for other users concerning the sentence above, and personally I don't see a point because I don't do anything stupid to allow malicious software get on the computer.

3 or 4 a day, of the same old shit, would piss my life away

First thing I've done with every OS since Vista is turn off UAC. I haven't had a single virus on my system. The only time I did have a virus was on WinXP and only because that system did not run a firewall; the AV picked it up though.
If you know what you're doing, I don't see what UAC adds except annoyance.
