Just reinstalled Ren on my new computer. My ping is fine, KPBS seems stable, SFPS is fine, but my FPS keeps going from 300 (up to 500) to 6-12 any time I open a menu, enter a vehicle, or start shooting (ended up in quite a bit of credits lost). I'm using the 4.0.5Beta from TiberianTechnologies. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know of a resolution? The game is 99% unplayable because of this.
Other forum said to disable shaders and vsync. I did. The lag spikes are less frequent, but are worse in nature. Instead of freezing for ~5 seconds, I freeze for 15+.

I'm experiencing the same issues.
I reinstalled Renegade since I got a new SSD, but my FPS is not stable at all. Ingame it jumps between 20 and 250 FPS, and on purchase terminals it goes back to 5/6 FPS. It is very laggy overall. There's no difference between maps, it's all the same.
I used to run Renegade with no issues at all but I've got no idea how to fix this.
My graphics drivers are up to date. I got scripts 4.0 beta 5 installed. I'm running windows 7.

I'm comparing to a week ago. In the past week I installed this new SSD on my desktop and had to reinstall Renegade aswell.
I used to run the TT patch and I'm also still running the same virus scanner (avast).
There's gotta be something I missed out.. I'll do some more research and testing myself.

I cannot go back to my old HDD, that one crashed. I do have some others HDD's though, I will be testing them.
Still in my opinion it's very unlikely that the SSD is the problem of FPS issues, although it might seem suspicious.
Anyway, thanks for your input so far.

The problem with SSDs is that lots of random writes going on can seriously bog down the controller, sometimes resulting in atrocious read times worse than those on a HDD. The more expensive drives tend to cope better but if you're having problems your best bet is to shut down any and all programs that could be trying to write to the disk for any reason at all.
Incidentally, if you are playing on a server for which you have not previously downloaded the maps then Renegade itself will be constantly writing to the disk as it downloads maps in the background.

StealthEye wrote on Fri, 12 October 2012 08:47 | I had a lot of issues (bad performance, bsods) when I got my SSD one year back (OCZ Vertex 3 max iops 120 GB). I had to wait for new firmware to be released that eventually fixed it. You are probably not having the same issue, but it could definitely be something in the firmware.

Had to do the same with my Corsair Force 3 120GB , still get the occasional blue screen when reading after I have left it for a bit, and the disk suddenly has to resume.
All you can really do is reinstall ren and try with stock ren.
