That makes sure the serial /woldata.key files are in the correct format. This to prevent issues with logging into WOL.

It is normal; almost everyone will get this message the first time they install TT beta2 or later.

What happens if you lost your cd key a long time ago?

(I haven't seen the message so I don't know if you can just skip past it).

If only you lost it, and your PC did not, there's no problem. We try several locations to find the serial number and if we can't, only then we ask the user to enter it. If the installer did not show the "please enter your serial" screen, then your serial was found by TT. In general, it should work for everyone who was able to play on WOL before they installed TT, and for some who were not able to play on WOL on a best-effort basis.

You can skip past that message, in fact, it's just a status message, nothing the user is requested to act on.

Well I still have all my CD keys, a few of my friends don't that's why I asked. As long as they can still play WOL (even if they don't enter the CD key in on the screen being decribed) then there is no issue.

If they can play on WOL already, then they will not even see that screen. The reason is actually to fix the issues some people had that prevented them from going on WOL (and also to ensure that the serverside serial hash command actually works for all players). Smile
