I thought that the universal nature of the universe prevented things from traveling faster than light by slowing down time?

I heard that if something is about the break the universe's natural "speed limit" that object is subjected to what would seem to be a time barrier. That speeding object begins to slow down in time while everything else around it that is going at "normal" speed would continue to move forward in time as normal. Once the speeding object slows down again, it's time perception then falls back into sync with the rest of the universe.

Basically something going super fast (faster than light) would be sent into what we would call the future.
