I'm running Renegade from the package deal of C&C games. If I am correct, that is called "The First Decade".

Anyways, I had the game installed on my computer a few years back but for whatever reason it was uninstalled. I found both disc and re-installed it. Everything went great, and I got up to the screen with:

"Play"
"Uninstall"
"Go To Website"
etc.

I hit play and the little preview screen before the game actually loads pops up that just says:

COMMAND & CONQUER:
RENEGADE

After that disappears an error message pops up and I cannot play the game. I have tried running it as an administrator, and I have looked for the "gamex2" file, which I cannot find. Both of these things I did after reading the forum messages a bit, neither worked. I have even, of my own accord, cleaned the disc with some disc cleaner I have, but that did not work either.

I am running Windows Vista. If you need me to, I can post what the error code says. Also, I have sent an email to the support email and have not yet got a reply.

Any help I can get would be great.

What does the error window say? From what I recall The First Decade comes with a no-cd version of the game cracked by v00d00, try starting Renegade without having the The First Decade disc(s) in your drive(s).

It will not run without the CD.

Error simply says Renegade has stopped working.

Hmm try downloading this unofficial patch for The First Decade, then try playing without DVD again:

http://www.cnc-comm.com/community/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=16

I'm not familiar with TFD errors so if that doesn't work I suggest downloading a copy of the non-TFD version of the game on a warez/torrent site and using the serial/keygen that comes with it to install it and then changing your serial to your The First Decade serial with v00d00's serial changer.

Actually, from what I recall, all games on TFD require that you have the disc in. It was added via the Unofficial TFD patch to all games in TFD, you're thinking of that maybe?

Anyways, are you able to launch any of the other games in TFD? Have you tried running Renegade directly through the "Game.exe" file (I would assume you have already by the sounds of it)? If all else fails, you could try uninstalling Renegade and installing via this guide.

If you run into other problems with TFD this might help.

I'm trying Lone's idea first. About 28% into the download on step 6. Ironically, I think I tried this same thing from a different website. The only difference is I ran into a problem with one of the maps missing and had nowhere to download it from. After this I'll try iRANian's idea.

To Lone, I'm not too sure what the game.exe file is. I looked for it and game.exe2 before downloading anything and could not find either.

Anyways, I'll edit this message(Unless someone else posts) when all the downloads are done.

Even if this doesn't work, thanks for the help Very Happy

EDIT: Just a quick edit here, to tell Lone that I cannot find my other TFD games :\ Unless the two Tiberum Sun games I have came with it(Cannot remember, but I don't remember buying TS seperately).

Well, you shouldn't need to find them, they're all on the same TFD disc along with Renegade, it should simply be a matter of selecting the games you want to install during TFD install.

Game.exe will be in your Renegade folder "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\Command & Conquer Renegade(tm)\Renegade\Game.exe" is the path to my game.exe file, should be the same for you.

Then I do not have TFD.

I bought them in a package deal, with a seperate disc for everyone of them.

The deal(As best as I can remember) included:
Renegade
Red Alert 2(Seperate disc for Soviet and Allied)
Yuri's Revenge
Tiberum Sun
Tiberum Sun ?Firestorm?

It also included a disc that just says:

THE
COMMAND & CONQUER
COLLECTION

With a picture of each game below it. Stupidly, I can't say I've ever even used this disc at all. I always used the seperate discs that came with it.

88% into download of 6th step.

EDIT:

So, now I'm downloading the Script(Final Step) and the patch that was not needed if I had the TFD version. Out of sheer curiousity, I went in to see if the game worked without them, and just the other stuff. It still does not work and has the same error code. On the brightside though, I found "Game" and "Game2". Running game does the above. Game2 gives me the error message:

Well, it won't let me Copy/Paste it, but it's a bunch of jumbled symbols and "BandtestSettingsstructure" more jumbled stuff, could not be found in the dynamic library.

EDIT2:

Okay. I did Lone's guide to the dot, downloaded everything, and tried it again. The exact same thing happens :\

EDIT3:

"Game2" immediately brings up the error code, and "Game" and "Renegade" bring up the loading screen then error, as described in the first post. I'm off to bed, I'll check back in about 10 hours or so.

It's probably because Game2.exe is from the 1.037 version of the game and you don't have the 1.037 patch installed. You need to install Renegade, patch it to version 1.037 and then grab Game2.exe and scripts.dll 3.4.4.

C&C 1, Red Alert 1 and Tiberian Sun were all released as freeware by EA.

After realising the I did not own the TFD pack, I did do that. Although I did not un-install anything. I just went back and did the steps in the guide that I did not do thinking I had TFD.

So I have the patch(es) and the "patcher" thing ran perfectly normal without any missing maps or naything like that. I have downloaded the scripts and drectx 9 and such.

As per another websites advice, I even tried running it in "Compatability" mode but to no avail.

I can un-install it and retry Lone's guide, this time doing every step, if you would like.

EDIT:

I uninstalled everything and redid the guide in Lone's CD in perfect order this time. I installed the 1.037 patch, Core Patch 2, etc. and I get the same error:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: Game2.exe
Application Version: 1.37.0.1
Application Timestamp: 21214d44
Fault Module Name: Game2.exe

Additional Information 3: 1815
Additional Information 4: 43a3d19a9bbc8fe7bca9b007f9356bec

EDIT2:

So I tried it on my laptop. It's an old model and runs Windows XP. Besides constant problem with lagging and the general slowness that has always been present with anything on my laptop, Renegade runs perfectly. I did not even have to download any patches or anything. Just installed it and sat down to play.

My laptop, though, has a problem connecting to the internet, which is the main reason I was installing Renegade; to play online.

I FINALLY got it to work. I randomly went in to Game2 and tried running it. Nothing. So I switched on Compatiblity Mode, 256 color bits and the one below it(Screen size, 16 x something I believe).

Started right up without the disc!

Thanks for all your help guys Very Happy
