Back in the day, there was a type of tournament called First to Five. Basically, two teams would play against eachother, and whichever team would reach the 5th win first, won the round.
This type of play allows for some outrageously intense matches. It is far superior to most out of five, which can be decided already after 3 matches, while a first to five can drag on for up to nine matches.
I know a lot of players who used to play in this feel nostalgic about them, as I do. For them, I reckon it would be a great experience once more. For people who have never played a F2F, I can tell you it's an amazing tournament to play in.
In a single F2F round you can feel you are getting more greased as a team, since you can always have comebacks. A team can win 4 times, then the other can win 4 times, anything is possible.
During many of these matches, you can learn a lot about the game. They are at the same time fast-paced, but they do take their time, both your aiming skills and your tactical knowledge will vastly improve.
You learn to both rely on your own skills, as well as working as a solid team.
The best way to go about this, is to have arbitrarily assigned teams. Mainly because if you have people making teams of their own, you'll get teams of 4-5 people who have played matches like these for years, and will cut through anything.
Here is a video of an excellent F2F round: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ScfQt5OONw You can see the amount of teamwork, personal skill, tactics and coordination is involved, to make for a thrilling set of matches.
Join in! We can play this tournament properly with 16 people or more. GOGOGO
