I've found the 'metal' community to be incredibly easy to bait, mainly because every sub-genre has a group that believes that 'their' music is metal and everything else isn't. There's this incessant need to categorize and define sub-genres on a hilariously rigid basis (see Encyclopedia Metallum).
It also helps that many fans play guitar, turning them into pretentious dickpistons who will rage on YouTube about who the best guitarist is, until the bitter end.

I love metal. I'm mostly into Trivium, 5FDP, Atreyu, All That Remains, As I Lay Dying, and PLENTY of other METAL bands. That emo, punk shit isn't Metal. People think that Metal is just people screaming all of the time with some really deep distortion on guitars and double bass every second of the song. That's not how metal is.

I was gonna say that :V
But to be honest, in my personal taste, it isn't the genre that determines how much I like the music but rather the content of the track itself.
For the most part I tend to dislike rap. However, I'm not entirely closed to listening to it when it comes on. I think because of that, my taste in music is very diverse since I allow myself to try multiple samples of different genres without letting one track color my judgement of other tracks in that same genre.
