I know there are some smart people on here, my friend (who is a geek) managed to change my facebook status via email despite there being no way he can know my password.
Is there some kind of trick that I do not know about?

All I know is, he can post statuses on yours via email or SMS if he sets it up on your account first. Perhaps he set it up in the case you left yourself logged in or something?

2. Is he good with cell phone apps? That's another easy way to go about it.

yep, afaik you can update it via email and facebook doesnt really double-check where its coming from, so you can update someones stuff, if you know the mail address they use @ fb of course, by just sending a spoofed mail to facebook.
at least that's what i read sometime ago somewhere... by accident.. or so.

session hijacking?
did this happen over an unencrypted wireless network? you can break into e-mail accounts, facebook accounts, basically anything that uses sessions, over unencrypted wireless networks

The easiest way is via cellphone or email. Friends usually know their mail addresses, so with a spoofed email it's pretty simple to change statuses and other minor things unless they fixed it by now (which I doubt). If someone got your facebook account linked to their cellphone you're fucked.

Via your server you can send mail in the name of another email address.
Prob facebook didn't check the headers for the incoming message.
