I liked the unit customization but I ultimately ended up shelving the game. There were other RTS's I preferred playing.

I used to play Warzone 2100 for hours on end, loved the variety of weaponry and sheer range of options in both attack and defense. My personal favorites were the fully upgraded Lancer rockets and the robot dudes (can't remember what you call them!) with a single shot version of the same weapon. They were awesome.
Have been keeping an eye on the new development project based on the released source code, some interesting stuff coming out of there, but I don't really have the time to play it these days 
Another awesome classic RTS game is Total Annihilation... if you like WZ2100 you will probably like TA too.

Who gives a shit about graphics as long as the game is fun to play? Also, for it's day, they graphics were pretty good. Go troll elsewhere.
This is the reason almost all recent EA games are heaps of steaming shit really, they just focus on fancy graphics and visual effects and completely forget to actually make a decent game to go with it.

ive played total annihilation i loved it. Is it freeware?
I looked at the WZ2100 project yesterday had some cool updates
the landmines thing was cool sounding
they are cyborgs btw

I played TA: Spring a few years back, loved playing against the AAI, the way it learns your tactics is quite scary... after a few games it's able to counter your tactics completely... your forced to try something different to defeat it.
