How does one preach peace but then turn around and start war?

With that, you make the assumption that all or most Christians believe that the Crusades were valid/righteous/etc.
|
No. No I did not. I said no such thing in even the slightest form.
What I did was ask how someone can preach peace but then start a war. I'm not talking about anything specific like Christianity or even religion in general.

i cringe a little when i hear people say either that being religious makes someone an idiot, or that some great scientist was religious as if that proved anything. both comments seem to be a waste of time to read

Hmm. Perhaps I misread. My apologies.
Too many people make that assumption, though, and try to pin stupid stuff like the crusades on someone merely because they admit to being a Christian... and falsely assuming they support it.

tbh religious people are smart, employ critical thinking, analysis, and usually are almost always the first ones to listen to new information and compare it to whatever they already know. This way they find themselves in a perpetual path of learning and individual progress. Hence, their views on reality will subtly change over the course of their lives as they develop new ways of thinking to deal with the questions of existence. Since they are so intellectually shrewd, they are very hard to be taken advantage of by cunning conmen, rogue ideologies, and immoral dogmas that unknowingly play on the most glaring weakness of a human: fear.
Due to the absolute mental strength of their various belief systems, religious people are the most fit to mentally face the surely emerging future human conflicts, social cataclysms and global wars; their strong individual fortitude, sense of human vulnerability in the universe, and preparedness charges them to not take any action whatsoever as they have the superior foreknowledge of divine intervention (The Second Coming of Jesus Christ, for example) at the time of imminent doom.
The secret to the intellectual strength of the religious can be traced back to the time of their births. Born into totally neutral family environments that were best suited for intellectual growth and having had no outside ideological influences (from parental or religious authorities) to hinder their intellectual development since, they have made a conscious educated decision, out of their own findings and based on the plethora of solid evidence found in the world, to take up the religious ideology of their choosing as they grew into adults. This development system (that ensures individual intellect in the vital decision making process) ensures steady growth in the religious population across the world and may account for the recent startling dramatic increase in secular movements across the world currently.
The facts are laid bare; to ignore the religious is to ignore our collective peril.

Spoony: You are an overzealous lunatic. Worry about yourself.
Hate: You're an ignorant idiot. Quit trying to be edgy.
The rest of you: This debate has occured thousands of times before. Give it a rest.
And as for me, I wish there was a God or some other higher power. It'd make leading an honest life much more redeeming. Oh well, I guess it's not very good to think you need a reward for every fucking thing you do.

ah, so it's nothing at all to do with what I said, then?
because otherwise, you'd have me pointing out that people who say they were outraged at their holy book being burnt (or threatened to be burnt) went on a rampage which as well as murdering innocent bystanders (again) destroyed lots of their holy book.... and you saying that me saying so makes me an "overzealous lunatic". so how fortunate that the fact you think that's what i am has nothing at all to do with what i said.

Well, this is the Heated Discussions and Debates forum. So naturally, things that would cause heated discussions and/or debates should go in said forum. So what was your point here? That you can count? Congratulations!
