Here's the bit that cracked me up:
Quote: | players are rewarded for shooting enemies in the private parts (such as the buttocks)
|
Just think about this for a second. The writer of the article is either so prudish or so stupid as to think that saying "private parts" doesn't provide enough of a description. Or that they needed to hide behind that grade-school silliness at all instead of just using the word genitals- because I think we all know that it ain't being shot in the ass that has Fox in an uproar here.
Claiming that the rating system isn't enforced is a flat-out lie at this point... games have been the media's punching bag for so long now that even online stores are requiring age verification. It isn't the store's responsibility if some dipshit gullible parent goes and buys their 9-year-old an M-rated game. Besides, when the fuck did kids turn into such fragile little pansies anyway? Our entire civilization needs to grow a pair and stop agonizing over kids seeing tits and gore before they turn thirty.
Score another FAIL for the Moral High Ground.

Remember, kids: illiteracy is cool. If you took the time to read this, you are clearly a loser who will never get laid. You've been warned.

i wonder... suppose the Bible's content was subjected to a rating review, using the same standards as video games/films/etc, what rating it'd be given and how angry fox news would be about it.

I never knew or heard about this game before I read this article. I'm sure lots of young people also heard about Bulletstorm for the first time thanks to this article.
So now I know all about it and want to rent it! I'm sure those kids will want to as well! Thanks Mainstream Media!!

We shall conveniently ignore the AO, NC-17 and R rated areas and selectively focus on the rest giving it a G.

Sir, do you wake up of a morning and throw darts at a picture of Jesus on your bedroom door?
|
No. Speaking of pictures of Jesus, how does anyone know what he looked like?

Because clearly, a video game deserves media attention due it being horribly violent. How could the parents know that a game called "Bulletstorm" with an M rating could be something they don't want their kids to see?! Honestly, it's not their fault!

Eh.
Reminds me of when I was in walmart and a 9-year-old nearly convinced his mother to buy him Grand Theft Auto 4.

Kids don't need protecting, not to the cuddly cushy degree the rating system suggests. Perhaps there's some merit to the notion that 5-year-olds don't need to be playing some of the more intense horror games, but to say that a kid in their double digits can't deal with some guts and monster closets is... fucking stupid. There shouldn't be any enforcement of the rating system. It's a nice little tool to inform non-gamers of what sort of content they can expect when they buy a game, but nobody besides the parents themselves should have any authority to tell a kid what sort of content they may or may not be exposed to.
I'm becoming very convinced that the older a person gets, the more likely they are to look upon anyone younger as stupid and immature or somehow pure and innocent... as if they'd somewhere along the line forgotten all the shit they got up to when they were that age. Or that their generation's moral guardians tried just as hard to limit their access to comic books, radio broadcasts, TV serials, rock & roll music...
I really, really hate the moral guardians. They'd suck all of the life out of life, if they could.
