If possible, try to step up to an nVidia 470 over a 465. A 465 has the 470's heat and power consumption, but is really neutered in terms of processing.
However, there are some really good prices on 465's on Newegg right now; whether they'll go lower for Black Friday, or not is the question.
A GTX 460 1GB would be worth looking at too, although it seems the 465 is priced similarly to those. The 460 overclocks better, runs cooler and consumes less power. But that's only if you're willing to OC.
A comparable AMD card would be the 6870, and one of those will beat out a GTX 465 handily, and even catch up to a 470.

Personally I'd save myself the money and go with the cheaper card of comparable performance. I don't think 5 to 10 extra FPS is worth the $50-150 (depending on card choices).

I was just commenting on the GeForce 460 vs 465 vs 470 discussion, in which case I'd go for the 460 between the three of them.
Then, comparing to the AMD/ATI side, the Radeon HD 6850 wins most benchmarks (vs GeForce 640 1GB) while also coming out cheaper.
Keep in mind the benchmarks I'm referring to compare the reference cards and partner designs (from EVGA, ASUS, XFX, Saphire, MSI, Gigabyte, etc.) may have very different results.
I can't decide for you. Just figure out the min FPS you want at the resolution you play at, then pick a card that gives you that.
All I meant before was that you'll always be saying, "it's only an extra x dollars so why not?" as you bump up to the next card, and the next, and the next, until you hit the most expensive card and realize you just jumped a couple hundred bucks from where you started

Unless you can give us a definitive price ceiling, and the resolution/eye-candy you want to play, we can't make a good suggestion.
Right now, the GTX 460 seems the best way to go, given what you've said so far. The AMD 6850 offers comparable performance, but is more expensive than the nVidia card.
But like I said, if you decide you want to play at 1920x1080 with an average of 4x AA, with a minimum 50FPS in every game, then you need to make that known.

well my monitors only support 1600 x 900 so that I guess? my price range is between 150-200 dollars, but since black Friday im hopping one thats over 200 dollars could be reduced to fit my budget which is why Im waiting, I want it to have a HDMI output and be very good graphics, I jsut dont know the difference spec wise between eh GTX and the ATI series
like ATi have lot of Stream Processing Units while nvidia has way less and stuff lime that

I've had the SLI hack running for a week now, without any problem whatsoever. PhysX works, as does nVidia Surround. It's amazing.
The downside is that you cannot use the newest drivers. However, they're probably as mature as they're going to be for the 4XX-Series anyways.
However, you'll want to be comfortable with altering your system slightly. It's simple to install, and uninstall, but you should back up your files, just in case.
