I bought a new power supply for my desktop and when I try to boot my computer it freezes on the post screen, it also doesn't allow me to go into the bios. When I plug in my old power supply it works fine.

That said you could say "oh that's easy, it's the power supply" but I don't think so because I saw the power supply working fine in another computer.

It does this even if there is no hard drive hooked up.

I recently bought a video card for my computer, ATI 3650 to be exact (AGP). I thought my current power supply (250w) wasn't putting out enough power so I went looking for a new one and ended up with this one which is 400w.

Any ideas?

Probably a stupid question but you never know but do you have the ATX+12 plugged into the motherboard as well?

There are two 4 pin connectors. There is one with the 20pin connector and then there is a seperate one with nothing attached to it that should goto the motherboard as well. It goes top left above the CPU most of the time.

If you have done that and the only thing you've changed is the PSU then I have no idea.

Try the basics, take out all the ram, cpu and gfx and try each one by one to see if you get any further.

Yeah, I have tried taking out all of the ram, it beeps to say there's no ram (to be expected) and I have trying taking out one, switching slots and doing the same for the other, nothing.

I did try taking out my new graphics card and putting in an older one (since the onboard video is dead), that didn't help either.

How far does it get to post. Can you see the CPU info, ram etc... if it gets to the HDD info and it freezes then unplug all the HDD power cables and see if you get the NO O/S message.

It just stops here and doesn't allow me to pres f1 or any key for that matter.

Right so it gets to the HDD part of the POST and hangs. Unplug all the HDDs and try again.

You should get past that and it should say Disk Failure no OS.

I have tried that and it doesn't give that error, it just stays right where it is. It does do it when I try that with my old psu.

Tried resetting BIOS and does the GPU require its own power?

Yes, I have reset the bios and the gpu does require a molex connector.
