Of course, my mistake.

I don't see my opinion as particularly extreme. I'm just calling the guy on being a faggot for kicking the dude and thinking he's somehow done any good. Extreme is Goztow's cherry-popping planning, in my opinion.

laissez-faire with teenage girls is the other extreme and often leads to great things like pregnancy and stds, even though it should be the parents' business to check the hoe and not the ultrakonservative dweebrother

I agree with you. Let's put Dover's point of view really to an extreme. If you cannot stop her from fucking 20 year olds, then why not introduce her to a 20 year old? And if she wants to do pills anyway, then let's find her a nice dealer!

That's not my view at all, Goztow. My view is that what a person does to/for themselves, nobody else can do for them. As brother, snpr can't do much. His parents can try to teach his sister right from wrong and equip her with the tools to deal with the rest of her life, but they can't live her life for her nor make her choices for her. If, in spite of their parenting, she decides to suck dick for drugs, there isn't much they can do. That's the wonderful bit about being a parent, you see. You've created life, an entirely different person with independent thought who is capable of making their own choices.

And since he's "only" a brother, there's even less snpr can do, unless he decides to play cockblock police for the next few years. And even then he can only do that for so long until she has the legal right to screw whoever she wants. Then what?

You're all capitalists, right? What happened to the individual taking responsibility for their choices? Self determination, freedom of enterprise, etc etc?

(Oh, my! How extreme!)

It's just not a good idea to go in and kick the crap out of the dude, or threaten him, push him out the house...

I wouldn't like to see my daughter at the age of 16 with some 20 year old. Nor would I like to see her doing pills, either.

However, if I caught her, then I would try to remain calm, no matter how much I wanted to go ape shit.

I wouldn't take the attitude of "Well, it's gonna happen, so why even bother trying to stop her?", that's just bad parenting.

But rushing in with a baseball bat is going to make things worse.
She'll think I don't understand her, that I am judging her badly, that I don't trust her, that I don't want her to be happy etc etc so on and so forth... I would be alienating her.

But in her mind, who do you think will understand her? The 20 year old dousche bag trying to sleep with her! She'll turn to him for love, affection and understanding...

It's not a case of "oh well, let her get on with it", it's making sure you deal with the situation delicately to get the desired outcome (i.e the horny 20 year old is ancient history, along with her thoughts of repeating the same mistake again).

I'm not interested in making myself feel better by saying to myself "Least I taught that kid a lesson!", because really, it's the wrong kid, and the wrong lesson.
I'm only interested in my daughters well-being.

Of course, but the dividing line between having those rights and not having those rights is so cut and dry only because of the inherent limits in the legal system. Are all persons mature enough to handle these rights (And the responsibilities that come with them) at 18? If so, are they any less capable at 17 and 11 months? I'm sure you agree there's no magical transformation that takes place on the eve of the 18th birthday. The distinction you're trying to make (Minor, bad; Over AoC, okay) is good enough for a lawmaker because it's the best they can do to satisfy the unique situations of everybody in a state with one set of rules. But it's not good enough for an individual parent. It's a cop-out to just say otherwise.

And even if we disagree on whether or not the sister is worthy of these rights in this particular case (Lets be honest, that's a judgement we're both equally unqualified to make), what good have snpr's actions done? From a pragmatists standpoint, he's trying to stop his sister from making what he considers to be a mistake, and ultimately instill a sense of right and wrong in her. Not only has he not accomplished that, but he's alienated her and made it harder to achieve those goals.

He fucked up. There's no seeing it any other way.

I don't see how you can conclude that. In the short term, he has achieved a goal: getting the guy out of his house. In the long run, there's no way anyone can tell how it'll turn out. You can assume she'll redo the same thing but each person may react differently. If he has talked to her since the incident and explained the reasons for his action, she may have understood and the force of the action may have helped her to understand how hard he feels about it.

Is that the goal? Who gives two shits about the guy. It's the girl we're concerned with, right?

Has he done that? He's just played the role of the tough guy and kicked a guy out and forced her to tears. Re-read the thread and everything that snpr has written so far. What leads you to believe that he's talked to her and explained himself? Re-read the OP and count the number of times he writes "fuck". What makes you think he's articulate enough to have this discourse with his sister at the time (Which he himself describes as "arguing" while she cries), when he's still so angry after the fact when he's telling strangers on the internet?

Talking with her and attempting to do something resembling parenting is a good course of action. That isn't what he did. All he did was get pissed off, kick the guy out, and alienate his sister. He fucked up. Just to clarify, here's the stance he's taking, the stance you're apparently agreeing with:

snpr1101 wrote on Fri, 30 July 2010 01:33

What did I accomplish? Probably not much. But I would think that if the guy isn't a complete douche; he might get the message that this just isn't happening. If I find out that this happens again; I can honestly say I will find him and beat the shit out of him. I know words are only words, and I'm not trying to to be over confident or the "tough guy on the internet"; yet I mean it.

I can almost read the response already- "So, you're going to beat up everyone she has sex with?" Yes, I know this isn't the solution to the problem, but if he is willing to have sex with a minor despite what has happened; then he deserves it in my book.

How does that teach her right from wrong? How can you call that parenting? How is it this useful to anybody, in any way?

That is not something I would like to have to put to the test.

I believe that approach would at the very best convince her you have her best interests at heart. However, if she feels she knows best, all it will achieve is her being more secretive about it because "Ah, bless him... Poor Daddy/bother/whoever does love me and wants the best for me, but they just don't understand! I know what I'm doing...".

My Dad became really angry because he found out I smoked some weed One time. He raged about it, and I knew he was only worried about me. I said I was sorry and I knew it was stupid.

What I really though though was more like this:

Oh for fuck's sake it's only weed, I knew he'd think it was like me shooting up heroin, there's a massive difference! Gateway drug? Oh come on... I'm not stupid, I'd never do that shit, it's just having a laugh with some mates.

It never stopped me from doing it again, it just made me more sneaky.

I'm not saying do nothing, just make sure your actions are the most effective.

The only action which can have any impact, in your logic, is preventive action. I'm all for preventing but if you note something's going "wrong" (by your set of values), then one should act.

I have serious doubts if people would actually act like they say here if it was their own daughter in cause.

If put in the same position, and it was my daughter, I would like to think that I could restrain myself from reacting badly to the guy. Not because I owe him anything, for all I care he could get run over by a bus.
However, perhaps you're right... In the heat of the moment I might lose self control and strangle him.

I do not agree that it's only a preventative form of action though. In the same position, I would like to think that I would invite my daughter and her friend to spend the rest of the evening in the living room with me and my wife (if all he wants is sex, or he is embarrassed, then he'll leave most likely).

Once he has left, I would have a talk with my daughter (making sure my wife was there too to back me up and stress the points I was making).

It's a far safer move in my opinion.

lol last time i fucked a 16 years old girl, was like 2 months ago.
I even got a blow job in a cafe's restroom. Seriously im 20.
Why even bother, girls are more mature then most of the guys who are even like 21 or 25.

edit:

Also, in my honest opinion, i got a sister of 16 years old. Her choices is their own business. I dont do that shit.

We both know our sisters have lost their virginity when they were 15.
So why bother anyways. In my eyes, i got the feeling that you are actually jealous for some reason.. In a way though.

But actually, if the guy was scared away by 2 18 year old kids...your sister shouldn't have been with him anyway lol

When i was 14/15 i was prob like most of the guys over here.
Come on. Nowadays everything is changing. I grew up with my mom, sister and little sister. What i do is allowed for them to do.

I act slutty, my sisters don't. If they do. I dont give a damn.
