Hi guys, just did a search for Renegade as I miss those days...

I was a beta tester back in 2000/2001 and an avid fan and player for several years and I pretty sure that it was all that playing that gave me RSi. :0(

I just thought I would look around and see if there was any familiar faces around, I saw one name I remember Goztow but no others.

I will always remember my Ren days as being the best gaming I ever had and wish that EA (it went so downhill after they bought WestWood) would remake it for the PS3 so that I could play it again as I have never found another game that got me so hooked and when I ever do buy a game these days, it doesn't last 2 mins and I still can't really get used to using a controller instead of a keyboard!

I used to have 2 servers running in the early days and Ren came about the same time as broadband became available in my village.

Anyhoo, is there anyone out there who I used to play with or against?

Phil (aka Pippy007)

I'm not sure. Your name vaguely rings a bell somewhere Huh

EDIT: I'm not sure 'vaguely' is the right word or correctly spelled Razz

Yes, I remember the SOQ, DTH and WNZ clans as they kept pinching my clan members. We often talked about disbanding my clan (RUNO) and joining one of the newer ones that came up like those above but in the end I couldn't do it and one by one the team slowly faded away: Geeti, Weesheep, AA2375, Gent, Hicks and I became more and more frustrated with the cheats and EA pretty much abandoned it.

If they had used the unreal engine as they originally planned to do there wouldn't have been anywhere near the amount of lag issues as there were, but no they built it from scratch but then again, the gameplay might not have been what it was...

Do you guys remember playing the single player version of the game? Never have I ever played a game before or since that had what seemed like lag in the single player version, very weird!

Are there servers still running (with/without Renguard?) as I may dig it out one day and have a play, bet I get pwned!! Or is it still just laggards and cheats?

Pip

On a technical note, even Unreal Engine 3, which is pretty impressive, would struggle with the rapid switch between indoor and outdoor enviroments that occurs in ren without you even noticing.

Yes there are still servers running.

Plenty of people still play to get a good series going, and cheating is pretty much kept to a minimum on the larger servers (if at all, if you know who your playing with).

@engine, I and most likely plenty of others wouldn't have even touched this if it was the UT3 engine...W3D is what made Renegade Thumbs Up

Unreal Engine 3 is the next Westwood 3D.

Look at Renegade X and the maps people are already making for it. If anything, UE3 is easier to mod and is more customizable than W3D.
