After their former hosting provider received an injunction telling it to stop providing bandwidth to The Pirate Bay, the worlds most resilient BitTorrent site switched to a new ISP. That host, the Swedish Pirate Party, made a stand on principle. Now they aim to take things further by running the site from inside the Swedish Parliament.

From the comment section.

This is not the horse and buggy age, it's the electronic age. If my family is starving for wont of knowledge then I have the moral right (and the obligation) to pirate that knowledge.

lmao what a dumbass.

Bittorrent is perfectly legal, and they have every right to use a provision in their own countries constitution.

I at least wish Canada had a similar party to draw attention to all the copyright bullshit that's going on in our legislature right now. Even after letters, committee's, and petitions, it seems MP's are either too dumb to realize the shaft regular people are going to get, or they're too busy covering up their expenses from the AG. :/

They're obviously a little more 'polite' than their Swedish compatriots because this is the first time I've heard of them. Razz

Hopefully they'll make some more noise come the next election. C-32 sucks for anyone with digital media in their hands.

Existing industries need to adapt and change to new markets (digital distribution / the internet / whatever) rather than pressurise gov't into legislating against any change they don't like.

Agreed, and some already do, which is pretty cool. Some even put up their own free videos and stuff to listen to their music, which is honestly pretty awesome.

Music artists shouldn't have much a problem, to be honest.

Movies and games, though, are a bit more complicated...

Games:
Hardly - charge for access to the multiplayer match-making servers.

Single player... harder.

Movies:
Cinema takings not enough, huh? (If they weren't, then all movie studios would be bust, because according to the MPAA, piracy is already killing them, which is why there have been easily more than 20 new movies in the last 4 weeks...)

You cant stop piracy. Its as simple as that. What is left to be done?

In the case of music:
Either you'll have to be prolific and very fan-engaging (see: amanda palmer) or you'll have to make something unique and important enough so that people will always be willing to pay/donate for you records (see: obscure electronic scenes etc.). In either case, you wont be particularly wealthy. Then again, most jobs in the world wont make you particularly wealthy, or it wouldnt be 'particularly', right?

In the case of film: deal with it. There will always be people who will want to watch it IMAX or whatever. Will those people be enough to pay for films? I doubt it. To make this medium as fan-engaging as music is obviously impossible since there are lots and lots of people part of the film-making process, most of which the audience will never know about (Who cares about technical nods or best make-up at the oscars etc.? Exactly). Instead, I think the industry will have to deal with making a profit off DVD and cinema-sales for as long as possible, and then give way to smaller, more indie productions. Will Blockbusters come out every week in 20 years? possibly not. Will it be the end of the world? No.

The most important thing is: music and tv and film are all fine art forms, but it might well happen that consumers will not be willing to pay for them anymore in a few decades. Theres nothing to do about this. These types of artistic expression may then become a niche-product for the select few. And thats fine too. We'll just invent new art forms. These may very well be more fragile and short-lived than films or music. One-time-live-perfomances etc. I dont know. The point is: artistic expression will always survive as long as people have stories to tell, emotions to convey, social arguments to make.

Oh, an the pirate party is way cool.

In addition, with regards to music, where applicable, an artist should always be able to make money playing live gigs.

Torrents are awesome,

You can't play a game online without a valid serial code - Which is the best part of the game, so I don't see the problem with downloading movies/music/games for my private use.

If and when I download a game/music/movie and like it, I'll buy it (excluded to games only for the multiplayer) Very Happy

Music torrents - cant be stopped i even admit to using these

Game torrents - are pointless due to most torrent games cant be played online. therefore this is only good for single player only games such as older GTA games and Deadrising... though its fun to play some games personaly before buy as Azazel said

Movie torrents - I'd rather just go get the movie... much easier

protip:
1. Go to google.com
2. type in inurl:blogspot bandname bandalbum
3. click bunch of links.
4. download.
much safer than torrents.

bullshit, quite the contrary. Due to the nature of torrents you'll have an easier time downloading bluray rips etc.

rules of conduct

Warez: This is a warez-free forum, and supports legitimate ownership of all games, software, music, movies, etc. Do not come here looking for or spreading CD/DVD images, serials, or any other form of warez. We are very strict on this rule

As long as we dont tell them a way, release, or give a link we are fine

or ask for it

As long as no one posts any actual torrent sites or torrent links, we should be fine.

BluRay rips ftw Smile

Very amateur way to download files, still at risk at getting dud files or viruses (Doubt you'd be worried though.)

Presence is a curious thing, if you think you need to prove it... you probably never had it in the first place.
