I don't think of Pixar as anime, no I don't care if it is the actual definition... When I think of anime I think of those shitty Japan cartoons.

I didn't say Pixar was anime. I was saying it in reply to Crimson.

Pixar releases computer animated movies that are for g-rated audiences. Basically kids and family movies.

I was saying it would be pathetic (using the word she used) for a grown adult to develop an addictive fix to watching Pixar movies (as opposed to a grown adult who watches anime that may or may not be meant for a child audience, depending on what they are watching).

I could argue with most of you, but I would find it easier to call you ignorant.

That used to be my old argument as to why people tend to hate on anime. But I've since come to a realization that really discredits that idea.

Deep in everyone's core, there lies different sets of preferences. One person's preference might totally conflict with another person's preference. It's very similar to personality traits. For example, someone my be an extrovert and can only feel comfortable if they are around other people; where as someone else might be an introvert and only be comfortable by themselves.

Anyway, I came across this realization actually when I was playing the game Mass Effect.

Mass Effect is a single player game. It has an excellent story and addictive gameplay. However, that got me thinking, if this game is so great, why doesn't every gamer play it? Why are there some people who dislike it? I thought about it and then I realized that there is a line drawn between types of gamers. You have your single player campaign gamers and then you have your multiplayer competitive gamers.

Multiplayer gamers come in all shapes and sizes but it is not uncommon to find one who cannot stand playing a single player game. In fact, my cousin, who got me playing Modern Warfare 2, told me that he never even bothered with the campaign because it's too boring to sit through.

Anyway, relating back to your argument. While ignorance does play a major roll (since most people who hate on anime do it without having bothered to give it a half-decent chance), it isn't the main reason. Some people just don't like to sit through a story, no matter how good we might think it is or how good it might have been rated. Some people just prefer action than to a slow-paced story.

People like anime because most are more "dramatic" I guess than other cartoons. They can do more crazy things without it looking retarded (see: live action TV shows), so it flows better.

If there were as many serious western shows as there were anime, people would watch those, too. But there aren't- almost all of the western cartoons are aimed at children, or are just humor and nothing more.

I wouldn't say that people like anime because it's more dramatic but rather because drama is a possible choice in genre.

There are tones of different genres that an anime can be. Some are completely serious, others have comedic twists to them. Others still might make no sense at all.

Saying that people who like anime like it because it's more dramatic is stereotyping the viewers.

People like anime for the exact same reason that you or anyone else might like to go to the movies or watch a TV show; it's fun to watch and it's entertaining based off of their personal preferences in the show's content.

Since when has an animated show translate into 'meant for little kids?' Just because it might be animated drawings, doesn't mean it has to be a kid's entertainment program. If someone was to take a show like CSI and make an animated version of it, why should that automatically lose a piece of its maturity value?
