I dont usually ask for people opinions with regarding computer hardware but im looking at upgrading and I just want some second opinions.
Anyways,
I have just been given a used but never abused Q66 SLACR from a friend but im not too sure what motherboard I should buy. Being as the chip is a bit old I dont know what would be best to buy.
I'd like to overclock it to 3Ghz which ive been told is very easy for this chip. So I dont need a motherboard that costs like £100 with all the fancy things that I probably wont use.
At the moment I am using a AMD 6000+ X2 with 2GB 6400C4 DDR2 memory. Would I beable to use this memory with my new cpu? If this RAM doesn't work well with this CPU what RAM would you suggest?
Price isn't really a problem as long as its not stupid amounts. Like £250 for RAM.
What im looking for is a semi-decent gaming rig. Something thats gonna play most games on High/Medium settings. My GFX is a XFX7900GS 525M (O/C'd to 600M) I will be looking to upgrade this at some point as I think its going to bottleneck my new system.
Any suggestions/recommendation would be appreciated.

It's slim picking's for Socket 775 boards these days, but luckily, one of the best P45 boards is still for sale, at least in North America.

Lots of people love this board because of its price, lack of frills, and overclocking friendliness. Apparently, it doesn't support RAID, in case that's a concern.
Your RAM will be compatible with the Intel CPU and board, barring anything out of the ordinary.
If you're concerned about graphics, see if you can hunt around for used cards in your local area. I got my 4870 for cheap because the seller wanted to upgrade to a new generation of card, so you too may be able to find some reasonably priced 4870's or GTX260's.

I was looking at getting the Gigabyte GTX260. They have a OC'd model thats apparently on par with the GTX275. Thanks for your suggestions.

Yeah the Super Overclocker one is pretty damn nice. Any of the P45 Gigabyte boards would be a good choice. I'd go with 4GB of ram as well, just buy a matching set to yours and you should be good to go with 4x1GB sticks.

Seems like it is a RAID version of the one I suggested, so that should be mighty fine!
Also, there's an Asus model in that mix with two PCIe slots for a few pounds more that will run ATI's Crossfire if you're inclined; if you're especially handy, maybe it'll also be compatible with those hacked SLI drivers. 
83 pounds though. That's still a bit of change is it not? You might have success finding a board on a local Craigslist, or through a UK hardware forum's buy/sell.
