Hi

I been having probems with my Renegade. The FPS starts at 60 fps and then it just drops to 5 fps then back up to 60, it happens quite often.

Otherwise known as FPS freeze. Renegade still runs in background while I am gettin the fps freeze because lets say.

I am on top of walls flying map and walking to the ledge then suddenly I get the FPS freeze then I end up falling down to my death.

http://gdgt.com/acer/aspire/5740g/specs/ is the website of my laptop specs

I am running windows 7 64 bit. On a laptop Acer Aspire 5740G

i5 430m CPU 2.26ghz quad core 3mb l3 cache 1066 mhz

4gb DDR 3 memory

Widescreen 15.6 inches
Screen resolution:
Other (1366 x 768)

Graphic Card is Integrated ATI RADEON 512mb.

I have tried Renegade on it's own. It still does the same thing. I have tried corepatch, Same and included scripts 3.4.4 and same thing then I tried scripts on it's own same thing and tried 2.9.2 scripts same thing

I have tried AA on all diff settings same thing. I have tried window mode. same thing. So bascially I have tried everything seperated and together. Have no luck at all. even tried with different screen sizes. Nope

I even updated my bios chipset etc on my laptop

It's still doing this.

Does anyone know why? and how to fix it then please tell me thank you.

Here is a short video to explain what I am talking about.

Thank you if anyone knows why.

Run in windowed mode, put task manager next to renegade and sort on CPU power used, play and check if a process takes 99 % CPU power when your fps drops to 5.

Also check the little led indicating hdd activity for specific hdd activity during the fps drop.

Did you try putting performance lower (in the Ren options), so less detailed but faster? If yes: did it make a difference? Is it always a drop to exactly 5 or sometimes different?

Graphic Card is Integrated ATI RADEON 512mb. --> integrated graphic cards always suck, but this seems a more specific problem. If the problem were your machine, you'd always get low FPS, not sudden drops.

Hi

Tankarmy posted for me, I am the one that is having the FPS problem.

When my FPS freeze my CPU down to 3% and it goes no higher than 25% I have tried lowest details but it's still doing the same thing.

What do you mean by that? Where would I check the little led?

Thank you for your help, I have added you on MSN and maybe you could help me further via MSN?

Thanks

I am also running wireless with a router, I don't think it has anything to do with that. I haven't checked wired yet.

I'll be on MSN tonight, but not right now.

hdd = hard disk drive. Normally there's a little led light flashing when the computer accesses the hard disk. hard to describe Razz.

What I'm getting at is that it could be something else is using your machine, causing the drops.

Did you also try disabling anti virus + firewalls? You never know.

Keep the AntiAliasing (AA) off, ATI cards tend to struggle with it (all of mine have, at any rate).

What happens to your ping when your FPS drops? The two can sometimes be related. Does this happen at all in single-player modes?

I will try with AA off again, On Multi mode, I will also try single mode.

Let you know asap

AA off, still having FPS freeze, In Single player mode FPS randoms from 60 to 25 and I also get FPS freeze but not to under 10.

Ping and SFPS is fine on multi player mode.

Update.

I have installed Windows Vista 32 bit, it's still doing the same thing.

When my Renegade FPS freeze my CPU percent drops down to 2% then Renegade is running normal the CPU percent is about 20%.

I however haven't tried core patch and scripts on Vista. I don't think it's gonna help because I have nothing installed onto Renegade folder or Data.

The laptop is about 5/6 days old brand new. Could the laptop perhaps be faulty? I doubt it because I just downloaded Just Cause 2 game demo and it was running fine. no FPS freeze at all. I am not sure what is causing Renegade to drop FPS.????

SFPS and ping is fine.

Are you the guy who's always saying "The one's (insert building you destroy here), after every building kill you get? Just wondering.

No idea about your problem either, i get them too, but for 1-3 secs max, not as long as you. No idea what causes it, or how to fix though.

Almost all the latest drivers, there is a few that I can't find.

I am using drivermax there is a couple of drivers that has a new version of the drivers.

But using drivermax I can only update 2 per day... I have tried to manually find the remaining updated drivers from google but not having any luck.

I am not sure if you are able to see this page

http://www.drivermax.com/driver/drivers.php?computer_id=667J415240VIKXOK5I7890TM TDXVKB&iduser=1513612

The green tick is the latest drivers and the red X needs to be updated, I am trying to update the intel 2448 driver and audio device.

I would suggest not using that stuff tbh.

Have you looked at Acer's driver page? I see an audio driver there and there's a chipset driver there which I imagine is what you're looking for.

Is it possible that the cpu auto downgrades for some reason (via software or even hardware)?

Could you possibly run a tool to check your cpus temperature while running ren?

You could also try to set the affinity to 1 core.

While game is running:
1. Open TaskManager
2. Go to 'Processes' tab
3. Find 'Game.exe'
4. Right-mouse on 'Game.exe'
5. Choose 'Set Affinity...'
6. Remove all checks from the checkboxes, except 1 (so only CPU0 is checked or only CPU1 etc)
7. Click 'OK'
8. Close TaskManager
9. Go back into renegade
10. Hope its fixed

Should make no difference, but I don't see why not to try it.

It sounds like the graphics card is using virtual RAM (Hard drive page file) which then takes a long time to clear out, causing these FPS drops. This shouldn't happen. Are you sure the graphics card has 512 MB assigned to it? You can check in Catalyst Control Centre.

Hi

Set affinity gives me an error. As shown in the screenshot

Carrier, I have also added my graphic details in the screenshot too.

I will keep trying to figure out how to get set affinity.

EDITED

I have set affinity to 1 core, I am still getting the FPS freeze. I will reinstall Renegade without scripts to see if it helps.
