The map is budding with new ideas and great game-play, AitcraftKiller just has to get to the root of the problem, it seems to have him pretty stumped right now.
Leaf him alone, he's doing a good job. I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say this map isn't fir you.
Anyway, this thread is really starting to lumber along, all this over some sap's map? I thought the game was dead, but this thread at least is poplar. It makes me pine for the days of yonder.
At the end of the day, life's a Beech.. Who wood of thought it?

That's a very 'American' principle, and is often publicized a lot when it comes to California. The people can do petitions that lead to recalls of their government officials, or end up heading to the governor's desk as legislation. For better or for worse.
However, I don't see that kind of political action catching on in England. It doesn't seem like the Parliamentary system really lends itself to grassroots initiatives, where MP's have to be rigidly aligned with their party. I'm basing this on Canada's experience mind you, and we had a right wing party which had called this sort of thing 'direct-democracy.' It was met with criticism from the liberal left, and 'moderates.' The party then shifted to the center and more or less abandoned those principles.
It's a very 'radical' concept to let people have a direct say in politics. Naturally, the liberal elites who have run the country for the better part of 60 years would prefer that the unwashed masses didn't interfere, because the public don't know what's good for themselves.

i voted yes to about half of them.
it must come as quite a shock for the lords to learn that most brits actually don't want them, cause it simply is not democratic.
i would submit a few more proposals myself:
- disestablish the church of england
- abolish the monarchy. let 'em keep all their palaces and whatnot, just take away their political power and don't throw anymore tax money at them.
- somewhat related to above: for all commonwealth countries, give them a nice fat referendum on what they want to happen to their political system
- stop giving undeserved privileges to religion (tax breaks, tax funding, automatic seats in parliament, control over thousands of schools)

You'd probably find the house of lords is more popular than the Commons right now.
The monarchy doesn't really have any political power anymore, its more of a tourism thing nowadays.
I don't see what dismantling the commonwealth would achieve either, if a country wanted out, it would do so.
However i do agree with you on the two points on religion. Religion is one of the main problems in the world today.

We can already do that. However, it's a massive amount of work, and my country would have to open up the Constitution and all sorts of things that we'd prefer not to. Much like your country, ours has a lot of constitutional conventions and customs that have been formed dating back to the BNA Act, and plenty borrowed from the UK previous to that.
Tinkering with all that would take away time from more pressing economic issues, and because our provinces generally hold more power than the federal government, you'd be more likely to be skating in Hell, than having anything changed anyways. 
It'd be a nice gesture to encourage the 'colonies' to have a referendum to determine their governments, but it should be more symbolic than anything.

The map is budding with new ideas and great game-play, AitcraftKiller just has to get to the root of the problem, it seems to have him pretty stumped right now.
Leaf him alone, he's doing a good job. I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say this map isn't fir you.
Anyway, this thread is really starting to lumber along, all this over some sap's map? I thought the game was dead, but this thread at least is poplar. It makes me pine for the days of yonder.
At the end of the day, life's a Beech.. Who wood of thought it?
