You've got it backwards. This overly-heavy metal is the stereotype. The "geeky" opera sound is an attempt to steer metal back into a place where it can still have the qualities that separates music from repetitive noise, like melody.
Seriously, that shit you posted is terrible. Shitty "metal" like that is spelled "Metul", with a U, to separate it from proper metal music.
