Do you have a router? A router, plus Windows' built in firewall should be more than enough protection.
Even without a router, you should be OK with just Windows if you don't do dumb stuff online. If not, ZoneAlarm is a good free antivirus, but that's the only one I've used, and that was a while ago.

Ya lol, I have a link system router with a custom DD-wrt firmwire and plus windows firewall, but I wanna be a lil more safe.

You're pretty safe. If you know how to install DD-WRT Linux firmware onto a router, you likely know how to stay safe. As long as you've configured the settings properly like blocking anonymous internet requests and Multicast, everything should be OK.
Using another program just means you use more PC resources, and just gives you more computability headaches down the road.

Windows Firewall = WIN.
(Yes, it's a little unexpected, but the built in firewall is better than most commercial firewalls.)

Our server uses it and it does work. Of course, it's not hard to add exceptions, but when you can add exceptions you're on the server anyway.

Symantec did use to have a firewall which was okay, but there products show that there service is useless. Install avast and see how many more viruses it picks up than Norton(Useless). The firewall might be an exception, but Windows Firewall is okay as when you run a IIS on your pc you will see no one will be able to join whilst the firewall is up.

Symantec isn't bad at all, but it's really overkill for what you're doing.

I was actually just about to say that.
If your router firewall and windows firewall fails at stopping things, then you really are misconfiguring the fuck out of shit and adding a new or different firewall ontop of it wouldn't do jack shit.
When it comes down to it. windows firewall and all firewalls do the same thing.

lol ya i have a friend who goes to these major conventions for hackers and he tells me how he knows how to hack and has a firewall better than anyone else the FBI called him up asking him about why its so strong, and how he hacked its friends pc and can see everything they are doing.....sometimes I wonder if its true or not

It sounds like he's full of shit, but even if he isn't, that's still no reason to worry too much. Someone would have to really want to get into your computer.

I've 'hacked' someone computer where I could see what they were doing, take control of there computer and what not. Thats not hacking. That was just me abusing Windows ME and getting someone to install a program that opened ports for me. A good anti virus (should) stop you from downloading such virus'.
