Old news, I know, but it won't last much longer, so I thought I'd give you guys a reminder.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/13210/

8€ at least in Finland. Probably can't find it much cheaper anywhere right now.

Good for you. Thumbs Up

I checked some Finnish sites and couldn't find it for less than 13€. Of course, it might be possible to find it in some bargain bin somewhere, but 8€ is little enough (for me) not to bother.

See you in RenegadeX! Smile

UT2K4>UT3>UT

Hope they finally release the Mac Version or UT3 this year...can't be bothered to install Windows just to play a mod with slim chances of success.
1. Will a significant number of C&C fans and other random people who don't play Ren of UT3 play it? Doubtful as it's a mod for a game they most likely won't own.
2. Will a significant number of UT3 players check it out? Doubtful, as UT3's community is hardly larger than Renegade's and most of them will view it as a slow, boring take on Warfare mode.
3. Will the Ren community switch to Ren X? It would depend on how good it is, because most Ren players are a)stubborn b)poor c)uninformed/retarded. A few old school players will probably try it out.
If you add it up, the best case scenario is about 100 people simultaneously playing on a busy weekend...worst case is a complete flop. I hope it turns out great, but people shouldn't get too excited about this mod saving the Renegade community...less people will play it than the original unless it gets some kind of crazy promo.

Hey, it's better than Windows for anything other than gaming. Most big name developers are caring less and less about PCs anyway and focusing on consoles instead...I'm going to miss Mouse & Keyboard for certain genres :<

Why can't they make it standalone?

I think I've answered this question a million times:

Command & Conquer and themes relating to it are copyright by EA. Unreal Tournament is not an EA game. If we were to make a standalone, we'd face a lawsuit from EA for infringing on their C&C copyrights.

We're also using some textures, animations, and meshes from Unreal Tournament 3 in our maps. If we made it standalone, we would also face a lawsuit from Epic games.

Mods on W3D are only standalone because EA allows them to be, as it is their engine. Renegade X is not a W3D mod. Very few engines have this luxury, especially not newer ones like UE3.

So, we thought it'd be easier for you to spend 10 bucks or less for the game (and get the mod for free), rather than having us pay for an Unreal engine license (hundreds of thousands of dollars), remake all of our maps, effects, and animations using our own original materials, and take away all C&C themes relating to the mod, which therefore makes it cease from being a Renegade remake. Oh and make 0 profits from that as well.

You're conjecture is inaccurate. You see, you're segregating each community unto it's own. You need to combine the members from both communities and that makes a good number of people. Then there are the people who aren't members of either community but like the mod. Check the ModDB page, there is an army of people on that site alone that would kill to play the mod.

It's well worth the time as well. I've played it and even in it's current form it's extremely fun to play. It's familiar yet new.

As for your 3rd point: No one will "switch" to anything. You can own multiple games at a time. Just because people play Renegade doesn't mean they can't also play Renegade X.

As it stands C&C Renegade has more vehicles/weapons/maps/features than Renegade X's current build anyways. I don't foresee anyone from C&C Renegade exclusively switching over to it yet, but rather, trying it out and playing the two simultaneously.

Remember that the coming release is the very first, earliest beta. I think it's safe to say that nothing that will be put out in the September 30th release is in anyway final; but instead, it will be a new beginning: a unique chance for you to get an idea of how this will play before it actually gets done, and a chance for you to put in your own input and ideas. The September 30th release will be followed by patches that will fix and add features, and then it will later be followed by new releases, which will feature more content.

Instead of having the community wait for another year, we thought that releasing the mod in beta stages would be best for the mod and its community.

Yeah, same. Atleast, bring them into what made C&C so awesome. Having more fans that understand what Renegade was like might make EA realize the potential a Renegade sequel has.

I'm don't want to further derail this thread into something negative as I'm looking forward to the mod and hoping for a success story as much as you are. If you want a point-for-point rebuttal, you can write me a PM. All I'm trying to get across is that this is an early beta for a mod aimed at a niche market - people should take it for what it is instead of posting stuff about how this will lead EA to develop Renegade 2 and other lunacy...ridiculous expectations will undoubtedly lead to disappointment.

I finally took the plunge and bought UT3 (coincidentally, that's very convienient timing for the special offer considering the expected release date of Renegade X) and have already started ploughing my way thru the achievements.... not sure I will be able to stop playing stock UT3 long enough to actually play Renegade X now!
